Moscow, 4 March 2021

When Russia announced their improptu national final a few days back, the rumours about the hows and whys and whats spread around the internet like wildfire. Most of them were absolute hearsay of course, so they don’t bear repeating. Going through them is like scrounging a dumpster for scraps of food.

However, amidst the pandemonium, Little Big (Russia’s representative in 2020) have finally broken the silence and announced a teaser on their instagram.

A new song?

In the short teaser clip, the immensely popular Russian rave band (left to right: Anton Lissov, Sonya Tayurskaya and Illych Prusikin) appear in what looks like a spoof of “Men In Black“, using the same memory erasing device seen in the movie on dancer Dima Krasilov (nb: not a member of the band). The band cryptically put the date of the Russian national final, 08/03/2021 in the comments box., a prolific lyrics website has a Little Big song registered by the name of ‘Sex Machine, set for that precise release date. The band had announced the song over the summer but an official release never came, until next Monday it seems.

A new entry?

So what does this all mean for Eurovision? Well… we wish we could tell you with certainty because the gossip is currently contradicting itself. I might as well try to guess the answer by reading the drippings inside my coffee mug. Little Big will release a new song on Monday, that’s all we can really tell you with certainty!

However, it likely ties into Russia’s national final which will be broadcast on the same date. Earlier, Dima Krasilov had featured in the advertisement announcing the Russian national final, providing a second, if circumstantial clue to Little Big’s involvement.

As for whether Little Big will actually appear in the NF next Monday, as an interval act or as a full-on participant, only they can tell, and it looks like they’ll remain obtuse and mysterious for the moment being.

Russia is set to perform in the first half of the first semifinal, on 18 May 2021. Last year’s entry, “Uno” by Little Big was a massive hit in Russia, even by their standards. Its music video is currently one of the most viewed vids on the official ESC channel.
