Portuguese broadcaster RTP will be airing a semi-final on the 8th of March and a grand final on the 15th . Lisbon’s “Convento do Beato” is scheduled to host the two shows.

Ten acts will compete for the right to represent the Iberian country in Eurovision. The Portuguese hopefuls will present their entries during the semi-final but only 5 of them will eventually make it to the grand final. In either case, results will depend on the televote only.

The Portuguese broadcaster has also revealed the shortlist with the names of the composers. There are many familiar faces for Eurovision fans – such as Andrej Babic (Croatia 2003), Emanuel (Portugal 2007), Marc Paelinck (Belgium 2004, Belarus 2013 and Malta 2009) and Jan Van Djick (Portugal 1990). Here is the full list:

2014 also marks the 50th anniversary of the “Festival da Cançao” – one of Portugal’s best known musical events – which has traditionally been used as the selection method for the contest.
