Some breaking news to bring to #YOU from Portugal – the hot favourite to represent Portugal in Lisbon, Diogo Piçarra, has withdrawn from Festival da Canção. The singer had been embroiled in a scandal involving his entry “Canção do fim” which had been noted to feature heavy similarities to another Portuguese song, “Abre os meus olhos”.

The singer, who is one of the most popular in Portugal at the moment, posted on his Facebook page to inform his fans of the decision to withdraw himself from the selection. The post can be seen below;

It has not yet been confirmed if a replacement for the Portuguese final will be called up from the non-qualifiers.
