It’s just 10 days till the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy! Connor speaks to Lithuanian representative Monika Liu after her first rehearsals in Turin. Together they talked about the issues with the stage, the songwriting process and the fact she’s bringing Lithuanian back to the contest! Check out our interview in the video below!

About Monika Liu

Monica Liu is one of Lithuania’s most popular and respected artists. After graduating from the University of Klaipėda, where she studied jazz, globe-trotting Monica spent time studying in Massachusetts, living in London, before then settling in Vilnius.

Since her debut in 2015, Liu has released three albums and plenty more singles. Her repertoire is so impressive that she’s been called upon to sit on the panel of two of Lithuania’s biggest talent shows: The Voice and The Masked Singer.

According to the artist, she has been considering making her way to the Eurovision stage for many years, and the time proved right for her now, upon the composition of Sentimentai, which was written and recorded in London.

She says about her song: ”I’m singing about this longing you feel at night, when you can’t sleep and you’re drowning in your memories, and the spirit of the past comes and laughs at you. The chorus is this dreamy picture, like clouds of the sea and I’m singing as a million roses fall on me, like in American Beauty. In the second verse, I’m singing about this beautiful place we have in Lithuania called the Dunes of Nida. I’m standing in the middle and waving to seagulls, saying goodbye to a love that came to me like dark sea-foam. This comes from a Lithuanian fairytale.”

Monika Liu won Pabandom iš naujo! this year and received the ticket to fly the Lithuanian flag at the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Italy. She will be performing 3rd in the 1st Semi-Final on the 10th of May in Turin, Italy.
