It has been confirmed that another delegation will not be attending today’s Eurovision 2021 opening ceremony, as Malta’s performer Destiny has confirmed on Instagram that a positive case was found in their hotel.

Due to the safety protocols enforced on each delegation during the competition, the Maltese delegation will miss the opening ceremony as a precaution. It is not yet clear whether the case is linked to the delegation itself, or any previous positive cases in the Icelandic and Polish delegations, nor whether the Maltese delegation are indeed staying in the same hotel.

UPDATE: It does appear that the Maltese delegation are in the same hotel as Iceland and Poland, so this could indeed be related to the positive case identified in the Icelandic delegation earlier this afternoon.

So far, three delegations have had to pull out of the turquoise carpet event due to be held this evening to comply with the COVID-19 safety protocols of Eurovision 2021.

We hope to hear of no further cases regarding the Eurovision delegations, wish all involved a speedy recovery and that the quarantine of these delegations can come to an end soon!
