Malta’s public broadcaster, TVM, has released snippets of the 40 songs competing in the 2023 Malta Eurovision Song Contest. and revealed the theme of this year’s competition, Let Us Shine. This year’s contest features changes to the format intended to give Maltese artists greater exposure to the public.  TVM released the songs via social media with a YouTube playlist of all 40 clips:

The songs included are:

The structure of the national final will include 4 quarterfinals, each featuring 10 artists. 24 songs will compete in the semi final, with 16 progressing to the final on February 11th. Winners in each heat and final will be determined through a combination of public vote and jury vote. A draw was held to determine the first performer of Heat 1 and the final performer of Heat 4. Opening the contest will be Hailey with the song “TikTok”, and Maria Cristina will close the 4th quarterfinal with the song “Our Flame”. The schedule of all broadcasts is as follows:

  • Heat 1 – January 13th
  • Heat 2 – January 20th
  • Heat 3 – January 27th
  • Heat 4 – February 3rd
  • Semi-Final – February 9th
  • Grand Final – February 11th

MESC 2023 marks the second year of this national final format for Malta after the country opted to select their Eurovision contestant using Malta X-Factor in 2019 and 2020. Last year’s MESC winner, Emma Muscat, competed in Turin with her song “I am What I am”, which placed 16th in her semi-final with 47 points.
