This Saturday PBS will air  the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. The preparations are in full swing and from tomorrow the participants will start rehearsing at the MFCC. Today, Brooke has spoken to us about her entry Unstoppable.

Hello Brooke

First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?

Hi everyone at ESC United ☺ My name is Brooke, I am 24 years old and I have been involved in music since I was 5 years old. It may seem like a long time but I wasn’t always a decent singer, so don’t get blinded by the numbers lol. Music is nowadays a big part of my life, and one can only imagine how excited I am to be singing and participating in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with a song I co-wrote called ‘Unstoppable’.

Your song that you will be presenting for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is “Unstoppable”. What can you tell us about the song?

Unstoppable is about battling our insecurities, taking risks and going for it. It describes that time we have failed in the past, which is now stopping us from moving forward in our lives. It highlights the importance of being persistent in achieving our dreams and goals, whilst remembering that with a positive attitude our success will be ‘Unstoppable’.

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Eurovision?

The song was specifically written for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest together with Christian Schneider, Sara Biglert and Aidan O’Connor. I kept the same team that made ‘Golden’ so amazing in the Maltese Eurovision Song Contest in 2016. I travelled to Sweden in September and we decided to work on a comeback for Eurovision. ‘Unstoppable’ literally describes the internal battle of my own insecurities before going on stage and performing.

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

Eurovision has become a part of the Maltese culture and we are very supportive of the Maltese entry every year. I really enjoy it and really get into it every single year. I watch all the rehearsals prior to the semi finals and finals, I make a list of my favourites and I also predict the winner. I also invite friends round to watch the finals together every year and we make a night out of it. My favourite entry is definitely the Australian entry of last year. Her vocals were incredible and had wowed throughout every rehearsal and that to me is true artistry.

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest , where would you dream to do a performance?

I have watched many concerts and videos of my favourite singers and performers, performing at venues such as Wembley Stadium, the 02 Arena and Madison Square Garden. I must admit to perform at such venues would be my ultimate dream.

Do you think performing at the Eurovision Song Contest will have a positive impact on your career?

Nowadays Eurovision is an incredible platform for all the participants. Millions of viewers around the globe watch the Eurovision Song Contest and that in itself is a stepping stone in anyone’s career.

Whats the one thing that might surprise people about you?

I am very outgoing and an extrovert, yet believe it or not, I have moments where I am very shy. My friends at school had never heard me sing until I was made to sing by my music teacher at my school leaving ceremony at 16 years old. And even then, I was so nervous, shy and felt like digging a hole in the ground to hide in. Somehow I get very shy of performing in front of a crowd of people I know well.

Where do we find you on a Sunday Afternoon?

Spending quality time with my family and boyfriend. And on other occasions at home resting. It’s my day off and I make sure I make the most of it. On any other day you’d find me shopping lol. Couldn’t do it on a Sunday, as shops close in Malta.

What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?

Practice makes perfect and that Nothing is impossible. Those were by far the best words of advice given to me.

If your life was a song title, what would it be?

If I had to choose one song it would be ‘Hall Of Fame’ by The Script. A positive song about following your dreams and achieving whatever you put your heart and soul to.

What is a typical day like for you?

I get up early (even though I am not a morning person) go to the gym and complete a decent training session, shower and go to work. After work is when I practice my vocals and focus on myself. In the evenings, I am often invited to perform at different venues, But if I’m not, you will for sure find me in my pyjamas sipping a lovely homemade cup of tea.
