Latvia has had a less than optimal experience in Eurovision since 2017, and pressure is rising to get a qualification in Turin this May. Earlier in December LTV announced that they had a record breaking 130 submissions for Supernova 2022, and therefore there was hope that a gem might be amongst the submissions to get them to the final.

Today a list posted deep within the LTV website revealed the 16 semi-finalists and their songs, and two names will be very familiar to Eurovision fans. The songs were available on the LTV website for streaming on demand, but you can listen to them using the hyperlinks below. The semi-finalists are:

Of course this will mark Aminata’s third participation in the Latvian pre-selection, competing in 2014 with the song “I Can Breathe”. Her second attempt in 2015 with “Love Injected” would take her to Eurovision in the same year, finishing in 6th place overall. She is the fourth most successful artist at Eurovision behind Walters and Kazha’s “The War Is Not Over” (2005), Brainstorm’s “My Star” (2000) and winner Marie N’s “I Wanna” (2002).

Markus Riva is also a familiar to the Supernova selection, having participated eight times now. His most successful attempts were in 2015 with his song “Take Me Down” which came in second to Aminata that year, and in 2019 when he again came second to eventual winners Carousel. Whether this is Markus’ year reamins to be seen!

LTV has confirmed that the national final will be comprised of two rounds: a semi-final taking place on February 5th, and the grand final happening on February 12th. The format and structure of the show is still unknown, but will likely be announced later this month.
