Lara is part of our Belgian team and is also a massive fan of the Sanremo festival in Italy. In 2020 she became internet famous when she tweeted that she’d be “seeing” Lake Malawi during the Eurovision Home Concert series, and twitter users accussed her of traveling during the pandemic. When she’s not working in the health care sector she brings us updates on the Masked Singer, former Eurovision winners, and the latest happenings in Italy.
Tell me about your first Eurovision memory?
As a child, the highlight of my year was already Junior Eurovision; I remember being obsessed with it as early as 2006 and singing Thor’s ‘Een tocht door het donker’ on the playground when I was like 7 years old.
What’s your favourite Eurovision song?
My all-time favourite Eurovision song is Rhythm Inside by Loïc Nottet.
What are some of your favourite musicians outside of Eurovision?
Pre-2021, my answer to this question would have been Måneskin, but for some reason I can’t answer that anymore… So I’ll go for Nothing But Thieves.
What about your favourite food?
I absolutely love shrimp croquettes (Belgian specialty).
Do you have a favourite place to visit?
I have an unhealthy obsession with dark tourism and travelling to slightly crazy and dangerous places (see: unrecognized countries, dictatorships, conflict zones).
Besides doing work for ESCUnited, how do you spend your free time?
I love cooking and baking, watching endless episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and reading history books.
Tell us one interesting fact about yourself?
One time, I went for a kebab with Albert from Lake Malawi.
