Dublin-based rapper JYellowL is the third act to be announced for Ireland's Eurosong 2024 selection.

Today, two more of the six acts competing in Ireland’s Eurosong 2024 have been announced.

The two songs were revealed on RTE’s radio The Ray D’Arcy show, which has been airing each of the six tracks and artists every day of this week. All six acts will compete on The Late Late Eurosong special on 26 January, 9:35pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.

JyellowL

The first act revealed today is JyellowL whose real name is Jean-Luc Uddoh, an established Irish rapper and hip-hop artist. He participates in Ireland’s Eurosong with the song Judas.

Born of Jamaican and Nigerian parents, JyellowL’s debut album D|vision was released in 2020. The album was nominated for Irish Album of the Year at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize and it debuted at number two on the official Irish iTunes album charts. Like Erica Cody, if he qualifies he would be the first person of colour to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The song was co- written by Jyellow L and Gavin James and features the vocal of female vocalist Toshín.

In his own words Judas, is about “staying focused and faithful to your vision irrespective of the challenges you face in life, whether it be betrayal, setbacks, set ups – these challenges are personified as ‘Judas’. And it’s about recognizing that you have the power to rise above this and achieve whatever goals you have set out for yourself.

The fourth act revealed is Isabella Kearney with song Let Me Be The Fire.

Kearney was born in Sydney, Australia, but also grew up in Donegal and Northern Ireland. She is now based in Nashville, and was singed to Sony Music in 2018 as a songwriter and has worked with songwriters for artists including Lizzo, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and Demi Lovato.

Her song was co-written and co-produced by Kearney, Robby De SaRasmus Gregersen, Megan Redmond , and Cutfather.

It has always been Kearney’s dream to represent Ireland at Eurovision. She describes Let Me Be The Fire, as an ethereal dance bop which in her own words is about “helping someone – a friend, lover or family member- go through a difficult time. It’s about saying, ‘Hey, I have you. Lean on me’.

The remaining two acts competing will be revealed on RTE’s radio The Ray D’Arcy show tomorrow and Friday.

Ireland at Eurovision

Ireland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965 and shares a joint record total of seven wins with Sweden. It is the only country to have won three times consecutively, 1992 to 1994, with 92 winning in Malmo, Sweden with Linda Martin’s ‘Why Me’. Ireland has struggled at Eurovision of late, qualifying just twice in the last 10 years. Last year’s entry by Wild Youth failed to qualify, their song ‘We Are One’ finished 12th our 15th in their semi-final with a total of 10 points.
