Azerbaijani broadcaster Ictimai today announced that the trio Mamagama will represent the Caucasus nation at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.
Leading up to today’s announcement, Ictimai had teased several clues on its Instagram page, particularly the method of selection and Mamagama being the first band to represent Azerbaijan since their debut in 2008.
Mamagama’s entry, which will likely hew to their formula of blending modern pop vocals, classic rock and traditional Azerbaijani instruments, will be released at a later date.
Made up of Asaf on vocals, Huss on guitar and Arif on drums, Mamagama had previously submitted an entry for consideration for Eurovision 2023.
This time they triumphed over 153 other entries submitted and the 12 finalists reviewed by a panel of both local and international music professionals.
Below is a live performance of their critically acclaimed track “Dreamer,” performed at the 2022 Kenga Magjike Music Festival in Albania.
Azerbaijan is currently in a slump, having failed to qualify for the Grand Final two years in a row. A winner in 2011, Azerbaijan were a Eurovision powerhouse in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Azerbaijan have been drawn to perform in the second half of Semi-Final 1 on May 13, 2025.
