Italy: Mahmood and Blanco win Sanremo 2022!

Tonight, Mahmood and Blanco won the 72nd edition of the Festival di Sanremo with their intimate ballad ‘Brividi’. Taking home the golden lion statue, they are likely to represent Italy as the host entry at Eurovision 2022.

After five long and exciting nights of Sanremo, tonight’s show concluded with all 25 participants performing their competing song one final time. Tonight, the televote voted, and a combination of the results of the past 5 nights determined the top 25. The top 3 went on to the superfinal, determined by the televote, press jury and demoscopic jury.

The final top 3 was as follows:

Therefore, Mahmood and Blanco realized their role as the Sanremo 2022 favourites and won the entire contest. They are likely to represent Italy at Eurovision 2022; this will be confirmed in the coming days.

Tonight, Amadeus was joined by famous Italian actress and Sanremo 1996 co-host Sabrina Ferilli. Guests included the Italian artistic gymnastics team, legendary Sanremo alumna Orietta Berti and Marco Mengoni, who performed his Sanremo 2013 entry L’essenziale.

The winner of Sanremo 2022 is likely to represent Italy as the host entry at the Eurovision Song Festival 2022 in Turin. Last year, Måneskin won Sanremo, subsequently winning Eurovision and taking over Europe and the world.
