Just moments ago RÚV confirmed their plans to participate in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest.

The decision to participate comes with a variety of reasons which were explained in a public statement by the broadcaster that highlighted it’s value to Icelandic society, the joy it brings to the population, and it’s significance to supporting the music industry in Iceland.

In addition, they revealed that the EBU is working on a number of changes to the contest due to the criticisms and complaints received after Malmo. Speaking about the issue they revealed:

There are now nine working groups at work, and the aim is for them to deliver results from their work in the coming months. Ríkisútvarpið has added its comments in the review, where, among other things, it was reported that there was an extremely negative discussion in this country before the last competition. Almost all nations have already announced their participation in Switzerland next year.

A decision has not yet been made on how the Icelandic representative for Eurovision 2025 will be selected. In previous years the broadcaster has used the national final Söngvakeppnin to select both it’s artist and entry for the contest.
