As we’re slowly heading towards this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Germany has unfortunately announced that they will not be a part of this year’s edition.

NDR and KiKA announced that Germany would sit this year out despite their commitment and enthusiasm for the previous two editions since their first participation in 2020. They cite the desire to take a “creative break”, in addition to the fact that the German Federal Foreign Office has issued partial travel warnings for anyone traveling to Armenia.

Germany does wish to participate again in 2023 and will broadcast the 2022 Junior Song Contest on KiKA per usual.

Germany has now participated in Junior Eurovision Song Contest twice, with Pauline coming in 17th place last year with the song “Imagine Us”. This year’s contest will take place in Yerevan, Armenia, after Malena won the contest with her song “Qami, Qami” in 2021.
