Apologies for the wait, I've been having an incredibly hectic past several weeks, and I only just found a comfortable window of time to get everything set up. I will update this thread a bit later once I have some images to accompany everything, but I figured I'd kick off the thread so y'all can finally reserve your entries!

Nurdia ii veneicto!
(Welcome to Nurdia!)

President Shura Erco is excited to take you on a brief tour of our glorious homeland. Because this is the country's first opportunity to host a national music contest of this sort, Erco has decided personally to oversee the ceremonies as a means of introducing the pool of participants to its culture and history. A brief history will be narrated during the show, with common Nurdish rituals serving to weave everything together.

In the meantime, Erco has requested that in addition to reserving your song, that you please list your track's original release date (preferably to the month, but year is okay); the point in time you choose will correspond to a specific event in modern Nurdish history, which the Nurdish Song Contest Committee will describe at the opening ceremony. Erco encourages participants to be flexible with their choices; there is no specific range, but because history and synchronicity are at the heart of Nurdish philosophy, correlating your song with corresponding Nurdish events will deeply enrich the country's understanding and appreciation of your own culture of music.

Post your entries in this thread or PM them to me by September 27 at 23:59 CEST. The contest itself will begin on September 28th, with a final voting deadline roughly projected for October 4 at 23:59 CEST.

Confirmed Participants:

Adamsburg
Oussou Empire
Baia Papaya
Solentoya

Lights dim

Megaphone Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to WLSC 184. Please silence your phones. Emergency exists are located to the side. Please take the time to locate them. We ask that you please refrain from all flash photography. Thank you.

Timpani and trumpet fanfare; rapturous applause.

Megaphone Announcer: And now, please welcome your host for this evening’s ceremony, the 32nd and current President of Nurdia, Shura Erco!!

Applause. Video of President Erco sitting from her office begins playing.

Shura Erco: Awingar ii veneicto! Welcome to Awingar! As the sitting President of Nurdia, it fills me with honor to personally oversee our country’s formal entrance into this global cultural exchange. Nurdia is a diverse country with a rich and complicated history, and so as part of this ceremony, I would like to give you a short overview of where we come from and who we are today.

Shura Erco (voiceover): Nurdia was founded roughly 5000 years ago, in the Plains of Vowa. Early settlers were an agrarian, nomadic society. The availability of food and water varied dramatically by season, which meant Nurdish colonies would generally live in different areas of the region, depending on their season and craft. From the beginning, Nurdia has been a society that has learned to exist in all places at all times, and that need to operate our civilization from every corner has influenced our growth and national identity.

Shura Erco: Throughout the past millennia, we have endured civil wars, famine, forced migrations, subjugation by invading clans, and a steady development of philosophy and art shaped by every trial and tribulation we have overcome. We Nurdish are proud of who we are, but it is always in our blood to perceive changes in the world, learn from our adversaries, and further our place as a universal arbiter of good in the world.

Shura Erco (voiceover): Awingar, our nation’s capital and largest city, has stood the test of time since nearly the earliest settlements. Originally, Awingar was little more than a port, reserved for collecting fish that was subsequently transported to other settlements, mostly the ancient capital of Garukkin, where the earliest Nurdish aristocracy resided. As naval prowess and strategic advantage eventually turned Awingar into major centre of influence amidst external raids and eventual conquest, it eventually emerged Nurdia’s royal capital upon the Great Rebellion of 755. Today, Awingar is a mecca of art, commerce, and civilization that remains one of the great cultural capitals of the Onchoagria continent.

Shura Erco (voiceover): The Taveron Radic is Nurdia’s largest event hall. Built in 1972, it has been used for both musical performances, as well as Nurdish holiday events. Tonight, it serves as the venue for the 184th Wait List Song Contest, where the representatives for several nations will convene to perform for all of you. Remember, you have the power to decide the greatest of the bunch!

Shura Erco: We hope you enjoy the festivities tonight. None of it would amount to anything without your attendance.

Video Ends. Applause.

Megaphone Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the head of the Nurdish Committee for EuroVision, Mia Goldman!

Applause. Mia walks through the curtains to the microphone.

Mia Goldman: Good evening, everyone. To commence the ceremony, Nurdish pop legend and humanitarian Hiiu Meyaha will light the Four Torches of Solitude. In ancient times, the Nurdish communicated with each other in large spaces by lighting these four torches, which would help them keep track of each other’s location and well being. The torches have since become an emblem of Nurdish unity across various regions and cultures.

Torches are lit to traditional Nurdish music.

Mia Goldman: You just saw President Erco on the big screen a few minutes ago, let me assure you that she is in fact here tonight, [audience starts applauding] please give a round of applause for her!

Shura Erco appears from a descending platform into the middle of the stage.

Shura Erco: Thank you everyone! It is a great pleasure to be here tonight! In honor of Moisantia’s victory in Velikograd-Kaspijskij last edition, the Nurdish Committee has invited performers Jupiter and Sapphire Skye to perform “Feel the Music”, a current favorite in Nurdish nightclubs, written by Moisantian songwriter Joseph Spectrum and produced by American-Nurdish musician Carrie Dash. The track is a mixture of several exotic styles with a fervent cult fanbase in Nurdish urban areas, including European electronica, Japanese techno, and American disco.

Applause. A few boos, mostly from the back.

Shura Erco: That was Jupiter and Sapphire Skye with their song “Feel the Music”! And tonight, I assure you that you will feel the music!

More boos from the back. The people booing are ultimately escorted out of the venue by security due to their disrespect of the ceremony.

Shura Erco: Yes, yes. There is a lot of music to take in tonight! But we are sure that all of you will love it, for it comes from numerous different cultures with their own distinct sounds! Normally, songs entered into EuroVision are expected to be brand new across the board. In Nurdia tonight though, we are allowing something a little different. In addition to the younger, newer performers, our selection also features a number of tracks that are several years old, albeit long forgotten. Nurdia is a nation that not only embraces the present, but also preserves the past, and so we welcome these artists of long ago to shed light on their music that left an impact in their day. Mia here will present an artifact of Nurdish culture as a gift of gratitude to each nation's performer, to which I will describe that object’s significance in Nurdish history. In addition, the song’s original release date will be highlighted and linked to an event that happened in Nurdia as a link between their music and Nurdia’s existence. Nurdish philosophy emphasizes synchronicity; all events occurring at the same time are a part of a common existence, however far apart they may seem.

Shura Erco: As the interval act, the Commission has invited American punk band Screeching Weasel to perform “Cool Kids”, a generational classic in Nurdia, particularly with its large ethnic Canyōne population. Although Nurdish pop has generally been dominated by flashy, melodically complex, and carefully produced dance music, much of the country has long embraced rawer, simpler, and edgier songs, which, while despite struggling for chart success until very recently, have always been an integral part of Nurdish culture. “Cool Kids” became hugely popular upon its inclusion in the 1998 Nurdish independent film Guerrillas, which is about the trials and tribulations of a working class Canyōne Nurdish teen living in Ovolimuhk.

Very, very, very loud applause. The several Canyōne and Canyōne-Nurdish audience members are particularly enthusiastic.

Mia Goldman: And now, without further ado…

Shura and Mia: Let the festivities begin!

Extremely long, rapturous applause. The lights dim. Traditional Nurdish music is playing in the back in-between each performance as Shura Erco announces each.

Mia Goldman: We all just heard from our eleven lovely performers, plus us. Before the recap show, we want to just remind you all that in order to vote, you must rank all entries on the traditional 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale, with 12 being your favorite and 1 being your least favorite. Because there are twelve entries total this contest, you will assign points to all entries, with the exception of your own, plus your least favorite from a different nation.

Shura Erco: Now for our recap show.

TEXT SHOW:

Shura Erco: You all have until Saturday, October 5th at 23:59 CEST to vote! Please PM your votes to PopGeek.

Shura Erco: Thank you everyone for attending the opening ceremony! Please return next week for the results show, where the winner is crowned!

Shura and Mia: Imeii Imaa, farewell!

Applause. Lights turn back on.

I did have another entry planned, because of the iconicness of how and where I heard it, but because I recently sent the artists to one contest, I decided against it. However, I'm in mourning from my holiday in Turkey being over. So lets send a Turkish hit x. Please note the banner above cuts out some of the posh letters you foreigners like to use.

Can't find the exact release date, only the month that it entered the UK singles chart so that's as close as I can offer...
