What you mean Turkey doesn't recognize Cyprus? That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while. Which world does Turkey live in?

The issue is that Turkey invaded Cyprus in the 70s and remains there and claims they own the whole island

Νο, it's not at all an esc family.
It's a nordic/north family with some backround supporting south actors.

2003 Turkey
2004 Ukraine
2005 Greece
2007 Serbia
2008 Russia
2011 Azerbaijan

Maybe "Nordic" countries like to lose, otherwise I have no other explanation

The Eastern influence has dissipated in recent times with the rule changes put in by the Scandinavian organisers.

And now imports Turks to Northern Cyprus to fabricate some sort of 'claim' to the island.

Ottoman imperialism never really died.

Turkey is out because of their own political reasons and Eurovision is just one example of it. With this new government they turned to their Middle East neighbours, put diplomatic relations with the EU on hold and also put everything related to Europe on hold, including Eurovision. Because of that I don't believe Turkey will return. Their governemnt simply believes they will be more important and powerful in their region than in Europe.

I am pretty much sure Ukraine and Bulgaria will return.

On the other hand I think Macedonia will withdraw.

Nobody knows what will happen with Bosnia next year :D. Bosnia applied two years in row and then they withdrawn. This year everybody is saying Bosnia will not be in Sweden, but I think they will somehow manage to find funds and be there. :D Who knows.

The Balkans is broken and I hope all these countries will come back and face Scandinavian and USSR block again.

:D

Isn't Turkey's return (more or less) confirmed though?

Well, there are some news about that, but I haven't seen any official confirmation.

I mean, I will be happy if they return, but I don't think that will happen.

It is rumored that :me: will withdraw after the jury voting elimination scandal

I think :mk: will withdraw due to that also and bad results

Maybe the :cz: will also withdraw

It always happens that when a nordic country hosts many countries tend to withdraw due to high costs

I think that Croatia could go either way - although there have been rumours that they're sending the winner of The Voice, they also decided to withdraw from JESC this year after coming last...
If they do return, I think that a non-qualification would remove all hope of them participating again in the near future.

I want us to return so bad, but I'm not here for HRT internally sending some trash again with 0 effort put in, and then act surprised when we it doesn't qualify, resulting in us not going back the year after.
We need to bring back Dora, the way used to be, and actually put some thoughts and effort in our selection. Maybe than we'll stop being total flops.

Not quite true. Northern Cyprus is a separate country and they do not claim that they own the whole island. Both sides are trying to find a way to be united in Cyprus (And things are looking better with the new president of Northern Cyprus) so no need to start Turkish-Greek forum wars.

I would agree with that comment 20 days ago but we don't have a govenment at the moment so there's still hope :D

Not really. TRT's new general manager gave us hope and then took it back.
