What song, or performance, surprised you most yesturday?
For me it was Albania and Montenegro. A lot of people have been saying that Albania's song was a big sigh but I thought it was great and something I would listen to anyday.
Montenegro gave me goosebumps, I had no idea they had such a great song.

I still believe that :az: had the best performance/song of the semi. But in the live :? :? :?...Then I can say that San Marino had the most beautiful and emotional performance. Montenegro seemed really amazing in the tv. I also enjoyed :lv:,:ua:,:ru:,:hu: and :nl:.

But I have to say that this year we have impressive directions but few impressive performances

:ua: Good old Ukraine, the masters of dressing up turds.. and what a fabulous job they did last night. Visually the best performance of the night. I loved it and Maria was very competent on stage. A shame the song is just so juvenile...

:me: Beautifully staged and beautifully sung. What more can I say really?

I don't think i'll be in a hurry to listen to these two songs again anytime soon but I don't begrudge them their place in the final. Good job to both of them.

I agree that Albania was a pleasant surprise. By no means the best, but top-10 for sure. Too bad they were not rewarded.

I expected Montenegro to be this good because they always are. Happy for them to reach the final.

Better than expected:

:is: :se: :ru: :ua: :sm: :pt: :nl:

Worse than expected:

:am: :lv: :az: :be: :md:

I was in the arena and I almost agree with you, I expected :se: to be very good from the beginning.

But :nl: and :hu: were the most surprisingly good for me. They have chances of winning definitly.

BUT I seriously think that :am: and :se: despite being in the first half still can emerge victorious, if you have a good song and performance, people will vote for it regardless were they are in the running order

:am: for being surprisingly boring.

The Netherlands: I liked that song from the start, but it was even better live. If there's justice, they should be fighting for the title!

Montenegro: I loved the stage, the performance...quite a good way to go from a somewhat generic ballad to an impressive live show.

San Marino: Delicate, soft, but in a good way. Nice to see something more sutile among so much "BIG, BIG, BIGGER" entries.

Armenia: I still like the song and I still think it's a contender, but if I was pretty sure of its victory, not there's a big doubt.

The Netherlands really impressed me. This camera and eyes idea was just amazing. Not much needed for a great result =) In addition to this, I liked also Montenegro.

The Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino and Montenegro were for me better than expected yesterday, specially San Marino and Montenegro. I already liked the Sanmarinese song, and it was around 10th place for me in my list, but I disliked Montenegro a lot, had it as last place  However yesterday I realized how beautiful the song is, and I'm happy with it's qualification.

On the other end Azerbaijan disappointed me a bit. The act itself is great, but Dilara's vocal performance wasn't very good. Still one of my favourites though, as the song is simply beautiful in my opinion. Estonia lacked a wow factor. I thought they were certain qualifiers but I can see why they failed.

The good surprises
:al: I still hate the song and her voice, but the performance wasn't as horrible as I expected, so a pleasant surprise, I guess.
:me: It looked so dull in the rehearsals with that random skater, but it kind of came together. He was surprisingly charming.

The disappointments
:am: I cam to a sad realization that this is no winner. He sounded terrible, didn't look comfortable and the stage wasn't that impressive.
:se: The most boring and lifeless performance from Sweden in a long time.
:az: Had this been the first time I heard the song, I would've thought it's terrible. This needed an intimate, atmospheric performance. She didn't sound good either.

:nl: The road images was surreal. The singers seemed to be floating on the stage. That was just amazing !:)
