Hello everybody.

What do you think of the song "Hombres" that represented Spain in Eurovision 1993 performed by Eva Santamaría?
I think it was a very fresh, innovative, original and modern song combining rap and Spanish folk music (copla/canción española/tonadilla), but its dance routine created by Englishman Bob Niko and performed by Joaquín Eduardo López (Betty Missiego's son), Francisco Santiago López and Eva Muedra and orchestration by Eduardo Leiva were awful and clumsy, the two other backing vocalists (Kenny O'Brien from Venezuela and Leyla Hoyle from Peru) did their best. Its lyrics (written by journalist Carlos Toro) are too stereotypical about men (Fortunately, not all of them are like that and even some felt offended with the song's content which didn't let anybody cold), but deep down they complement each other like a yin yang. Curiously enough, its structure was very strange due to the lack of a recognisable chorus.
This song arose in Los Angeles, California (Eva recorded her album "A buen puerto" there) when one day, they had a small argument, she wanted to go shopping and he preferred visiting an aerospace museum. Her dress was designed by Victorio & Lucchino from Seville.
Juries were too conservative back then since they preferred powerballads (Ireland) or bubblegum pop (United Kingdom) and didn't value risky songs like The Netherlands or Spain, they played safe as always (8 music professionals + 8 music lovers from all walks of life), but an 11th position is not that bad.

All the best
