Self-criticism is good, changes for the better too.

So what changes would you want to see for ESC 2014 (rules, format etc.)?

Discuss!

Implement a rule against composers submitting entries in more than one country...especially a certain someone with blonde hair...

- System 50/50 back
- Running order determined by draw
- Slower and more exciting announcing the finalists
- Contest in bigger arena (and in capital city)
- Showing the whole winner's performance before end of transmission.
- Better songs. (Overall, songs in 2013 wasn't very horrible, but it could be better.)
- Juries with better taste.

Bring some clarity and respect to the meaning of the ESC concept!

... as for now everyone knows that ESC is a concept where entries represent their countries, however there's no actual clarity in what this actually means in practice, imo the concept must be brought into light and there need to be some clarity about what this should mean ... so imo:

Forbid "shopping-for-ESC-entries", only allow homegrown products or products made by composers/producers/songwriters who are active in the countries' actual music scene (for instance if they work with local acts, if a country belongs to a "region" that share musicians and acts on a regular basis). ESC SHOULD be about entries representing their countries!

Reduce the jury power, or give juries clear guidelines to honor the concept of the contest as part of bringing some clarity to the meaning of the concept aswell as adding credibility to the contest:

  • Encourage national diversity (entries with ethnic style and/-or in native languages)

  • Encourage entries that are representative of the countries' actual music scenes (both contemporary and/-or traditionally)
  • Encourage contemporary music (entries that actually works in today's general European music scene and could be potential hits - One of ESC's major issues is that it can't produce any cross-over hits which is hurting its credibility as a force in music)
  • Encourage originality (thinking out-side-the-box and trying fresh and different things should be premiered - of course it has to be good and not just premiering originally for the sake of originally alone - but still trying new things is good for musical evolution and it shouldn't be seen as a risk)
  • All in all the songs are the most important, a great vocalist shouldn't be able to get support with a hopeless song (we're searching for the best song, not just the best vocalist! - ESC shouldn't be another copy of Idol/The Voice/X-Factor) - but overall the overall package should matter (= song + performance + talent)
  • Encourage grand shows (an act putting time and effort in their stage show and make ESC more entertainment for the viewers shouldn't be punished for doing this! - of course it has to fit the entry and still be a good enough song)

Technical issues

  • Random running order draw (reverse it back to the previous system with voting pattern pots as the only "non-random" element in the draw).

  • If juries are kept, atleast double the amount of members in each group.

  • Reduce televoting to maximum 1-5 votes/entry from 1 phone!

  • Bring back transparency to the contest - if juries are kept, release split results for each country!

  • Bring back the previous voting system (no ranking!)

  • No more non- geographical European expansion! : I think it's time that EBU changes the rules for entering ESC, it shouldn't be just enough to be within the EBU broadcasting area to enter, the titles EUROvision should actually mean something and not just be a random name with an empty meaning! I'd say that any further expansion from now on should only be made with independent recognized states that atleast are partly geographically within the European continent.

  • BAN countries that cheats or corrupt the contest for atleast a couple of years time! No more bribing juries or manipulate televoting in certain target countries! The EBU KNOWS what's going on behind closed doors, but if they want to be more transparent and legitimate, they need to start taking action!

  • Don't reveal the winner officially until all spokespersons have given the votes.

  • If juries are kept, reveal the votes with split screens that gets combined to one screen live before points shown.

  • The winner song should be performed in full, and not cut off like it was in 2013.

- drastically: Bring back televotes only
- not too drastic, but still much better than it is now: 50/50, but with the old system and uh...juries with some sense, please
- running order draw (most obvious change)
- just one vote allowed from televoters (i know, that is nearly impossible with the money gain included, but one man can dream)

I can't stand at all juries. EBU must change it. It should be professional juries, yes ? So why they choose awful, cheesy and old-fashioned Belarusian and Finnish songs into the final, and are flopping very creative and sung in native languages - Montenegrin and Bulgarian song. Sorry, but this is not even funny. Ola Sand, explain it !

- bring back the random draw!!!!
- only one vote per phone (well since EBU wouldn't accept such a drastic change - let's say only 5-10 votes per phone are allowed)
- bigger juries (at least 10 jury members, maybe 20 would be even better...)
- all songs in a national selection have to be written, composed and performed by people from the specific country
- EBU should release all results
- not a rule, but countries should be encouraged to sing in their native language

- Random Draw instead of a running order made by the producers
- Combine the jury- and public-votes in the modus used before 2013 (Jury: 1-12 points, Public 1-12 Points, not Jury Rank 1-26, Public Rank 1-26)
- The juries should be bigger
- Full results should be released by the EBU after the contest

- Random draw (or with some pots according to music styles if not 100% random)

- Juries should be people related to ESC: former singers, former composers, fans, etc... I think these people can understand better the spirit of ESC.

- Transparency.

- One vote per phone.

- Cheaper tickets.

- Releasing full split results country by country. Failure to do so, will result in a penalty.
- Transparent running order
- More professional jury members, and why not, more jury members and not just 5!
- One vote per phone line - that I agree for sure!
- I agree with slower finalists announcements, and of course, no one should ever dream of cutting a winning performance short or pre-announcing the winner!
