Well, only one of the national final songs (the most clicheed Eurovision style one) came via the OGAE shortlist last year. Most of the entries will probably again be picked by Hugh Goldsmith from his record industry contacts.
Wasn't that awful Mathew James song the song from BAACA though?

I'm interested to see if any of the nf format has changed, specifically not making it look so cheap and adding an (international) jury vote. I doubt it but I can hope, I assume we're following this route again because of our mild success with the jury so the BBC hooked on that. Either way I'm expecting us to out Danish the Danish NF.
No one seems to know for sure. I heard it was Joe and Jake.
Either way, BASCA let us down last year. Or at least the song the BBC chose from BASCA's selection let us down. However, I still believe that our best chance of getting a good entry is through hiring professional songwriters.
Ok. Turns out if you dig deeper and click on the BBC's terms and conditions, they confirm BASCA are still involved. It's exactly the same as last year.
Last year it looked like songs were chosen based on potential. No problem with that except once they were chosen for the final they seem to have remained in their rough demo stage and weren't given a professional revamp/polishing before presenting them to the public. Therefore it looked more like ametur night at the local pub instead of the right to represent the country in a major international competition xdoh
The only one that looked finished and ready to compete the next day if necessary was that awful "Better Man" song. The worst song of the selection So this year they need to add the extra step and finish the songs before presenting them to the public, nothing half baked.
I saw a lot that were submitted that were original and unquestionably better than what we were given.
Like, why on earth was Matthew James offered... seriously.
Terrible.
Also, I would quite like to see more offered. Give us 8 instead of 6. It isn't as though they would need to increase the time the show is on, either - there was plenty of talking and the performance by Katrina (which, was friggin' awesome).
I just hope whoever we get this year, whilst having enough quality to do well, will embrace the tournament like Joe and Jake did. I felt like with Molly she was using Eurovision to try and get her career going. And sure, Joe and Jake were doing the same thing - but they were totally reveling in the whole experience and genuinely were appreciative and loved it. It didn't work out well for them on the night, but I'll remember our submission in 2016 fondly.
Apparently there is a song writing camp in Copenhagen to write songs for the UK NF, most notably 2013 winner Emmelie De Forest is there. I'm not 100% sure if this has been set up by the BBC, but from what i've read there is strong possibility it has. I don't think it was done last year, and if its encouraging some good song writers to submit songs then I am interested to see how this turns out for us - especially with some foreign song writers.
