Well, I can't find the 2024 general discussion thread yet. I'm providing a thread to house it before mods will make one.

You may discuss anything related to the 2024 contest in general.

EDIT: Welp, I guess it has manifested into one.xshrug Let's go guys!

The twitter page, however, is still a bit reaching at parts - I'm not saying that some of the incidents are bad but calling someone "provking" an artist by congratulating them and asking them to "say something to their fans in [insert country]" and not chasing/going after that artist, is not really "provoking".

Most journalists/bloggers asks such things "Any words for our readers?/people in Germany/Sweden/Croatia etc."

But comments like the one above - being broadcast is clearly breaching EBU's rules of delegations not "discriminating or ridiculing" any other contestants.

I'm angry that Eurovision 2024 has turned out like that :(

I think the bottom line is, if the EBU take anything away from this (highly unlikely), is that Israel attempted to influence their televote with political statements which is in direct breach of EBU rules

But hey, KAN got away with murder in Malmö so I'm not expecting much

I don't expect much either - especially since Moroccan Oil is one of the official sponsors of ESC 2025 as well but there should be some consequences for the comments indeed - but I guess it will be something like :az: "had to face" back in 2009.

The Israel Breaks Rules twitter account is not a legitimate source in anyway. It was started by two twitter users in the Euro-sphere who have hated Israel for many years. You might as well just bring up tweets from Jackson Hinkle or Syrian Girl pertaining to Israel if you are going to be that biased and one sided.

If you want to know what is actually being said you should talk to people that speak fluent Hebrew and not some asshat looking for some views and likes.

Let's be real though, even if the X-Thread is indeed accurate people would still find excuses for the Israeli broadcaster and delegation. That's the "nice" thing in all of this, you can twist facts, just claim that people who make valid points are being antisemitic and the discussion is over. It's beyond annoying.

Repeat after me: it is not antisemitic to want Israel to stop killing civilians in Gaza

Equally, it’s not antisemitic to call out their national broadcaster for making unacceptable remarks during the live broadcasts that could have swayed the televotes in favour of more ‘sympathetic’ artists

I told you the truth will finally come out:

And there is more to come. I have info that other delegations started first before Israel ever did anything or harassed anyone. I heard that the EBU has proof (videos and more) about what other delegations did. There is a reason why they stay quiet and did not do anything against Israel.

I told you to be cautious on whose side you are. Because when the WHOLE truth comes out (and I said: mark my words it will) it could be very embarrassing for most of you if you will realize what you support.

I think if ESCUnited go on like this and support the Israel hate and delete all pro Israel posts here and ignore Israel in their videos like they did (only calling the name does not count - you ignored any reports on them apart from the bad)… then you and other fansites will have a very bad reputation next year.

Told ya some time ago.

According to Norwegian press, 6 countries were set to withdraw from the Grand Final just hours before broadcast. Those were:

 Norway
:ie: Ireland
:gr: Greece
:pt: Portugal
:ch: Switzerland
:uk: United Kingdom

However, an undisclosed agreement was reached with just 25 minutes to go before broadcast... The rumour mill suggests the reasons for withdrawal included four issues:
  • Israel's participation in Eurovision
  • The behaviour of the KAN delegation at Eurovision throughout the week
  • The disqualification of Joost Klein and The Netherlands in light of point two seemingly not being addressed initially
  • The massive security effort involved in putting the Grand Final on this year.

This article is behind a paywall but there is information on Twitter/X should you wish to dig deeper.

That would lead to an Israeli victory. I am glad they didn’t, but I have little belief that Martin Osterdahl will do anything that upsets KAN. I see potentially several countries withdrawing next year.

Anyway

Switzerland aside, have any of the five confirmed participation? Because honestly the only way I can see some change going on is with threats of withdrawing (especially with a big 5 involved like the UK)

:gr: ERT and :uk: BBC already debunked that rumour and stated that it's not true at all.

They didn't intend to withdraw at all.
I think we can hypothesise all year on this but whether they did or not, they were a part of crisis talks for a reason

I value comments made by the delegations themselves more than a Norwegian tabloid.
There's nothing to debate on, tbh.

2 delegations ans broadcasters already denied the story.

It doesn't mean that this year's edition was a mess in many ways though but when it comes to the story posted above, it's worth pointing out "fake news" - especially since that rumour picked up pace on several social media/Eurovision platforms.

If it’s true then I have a bunch that it has something to do with the KAN delegation member being banned from the arena on the final night

Hopefully it was the one who took selfies (without their consent) with contestants and wrote mean things as captions.
That person shouldn't be allowed to come near to a Eurovison site ever again
