Well, I can't find the 2024 general discussion thread yet. I'm providing a thread to house it before mods will make one.

You may discuss anything related to the 2024 contest in general.

EDIT: Welp, I guess it has manifested into one.xshrug Let's go guys!

I´m sorry but do you really think that the casual viewer suddenly remembers the songs performed earlier if two songs less are performed?? It would still be 24 songs. xthink

26 songs are a compromise, though. It feels necessary to fit as many countries as possible in the GF to keep viewership numbers high.
If we need a cut, maybe 8 GF slots per semi is the limit (ending up in 21-22 songs). I can't imagine a number much lower.

That's Mello's idea - to have the voters a 2nd shot of changing the results in a 12 song final, but I don't know if it'll work well with 26 finalists.

We'd end up with top heavy televoting results most likely. Would anyone care to vote for a song that's drawing dead in the jury?

Mello and ESC are different in their voting system though (by age vs by country) which makes the change a bit pointless from the game aspect. It's good to make money, though.

I thought that the final felt a bit too long this year but cutting a full hour is really extreme. I'm against it. Eurovision is just once a year. Let us have fun. I hope the flag parade stays. They could change something about the voting system to make the reveal of all the points shorter, idk. I hope they don't make the list of finalists shorter. That would be bad for Eurovision and viewership. Some countries struggle to make it to the final. They would probably see the final maybe once in 10 years.

We should simply trust SVT. They will find the right Solution.

Sometimes he really sounds like paid by SVT. :ROFLMAO:
True religious devotion does not need to be paid.

„Our SVT Who art in Sweden,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy rule changes come;
Thy Will shall be done in Melfest as in ESC.
Give us this day our daily generic pop;
and forgive us our love for originality
as we forgive those who do not vote for us;
and lead us not into questioning you,
but deliver us from our own taste.
For thine is the Benjamin
and the Ingrosso
and the Benjamin Ingrosso.
Amen“

This is definitely a bit of a mad idea and I can see why it'd be unpopular, but I'd kind of like to see less songs in the final. Maybe just 2 less so there's 9 qualifiers from each semi? But 26 is an absolutely huge number of songs and I imagine it contributes to the infamous running order problem where earlier songs just get forgotten.

In the Caucasian countries Eurovision ends at like 3am. A shorter show would be more accessible - or maybe start earlier? I don't see why they couldn't start at 8pm CEST.
I'd like to see :uk: have to qualify too but that's not going to happen. Qualifiers should not be messed with under any circumstances.

Yeah, I think it would be better at 20-ish songs, but that would leave us with 7 qualifiers from each semi (assuming big 5 system remains) and I think that might ruffle a few too many feathers. It would also risk viewership which EBU wouldn't like.

Eric Saade won the Televote 2011, since San Marino (10 points to Azerbaijan and 6 Points to Sweden) used 100% Jury.

So :se: should lead this Ranking.

And why would the San Marino jury score be included in the televote tally?

To ensure that every Country submitted 2 Votings.
