Oh yeah, personally I'm ok with MM's results. Not what most people expected obviously, but I could live with that. The staging was... there was no staging, let's be honest  And the outfits  I'm not responsible for them, please hold while I transfer your call to JP Gaultier.

Positive shocker for me was (oddly enough) Czech Republic. I'm not fond of the song, but I'm glad they did that well in the end. I don't understand why he wasn't supported by juries as much as Sweden was  Also Lithuania got a good result, I wanted Ieva to beat Ireland, which she did. So I'm happy with that.

Negative shocker: Austria first with juries. I knew this was a jury song more than anything, but first place was totally overrated imo. To me, it was one of the few songs of the evening that stood out the least. :? I'm also sad for Portugal, they didn't deserve to tank.

What about you? :)

JP Gaultier? Dear, you can hang up the phone. What an amateur! Even I could do better than this. Embarassing for Monsieur & Madame, but even bigger embarassment for Gaultier. xqueenbitch I hope he didn't tweet about it. Not something to be proud about... I know, I am vicious now a bit xcheers

Czech Republic - sorry guys, but when I see Mikola, I think of Bel Ami porn. And that ass shake was really awkward in my opinion. But I agree with you, I felt some sort of justice for their 2016 entry, who got 0 points in final televote. But I guess Czech are slowly learning the business of ESC trade. Second qualification in 3 years! Nice.

Austria - radio friendly, I like it, but I totally agree with you. Def, overrated - like Sweden.

So, my positive and negative shockers were:

1) Ukraine tanking in jury votes.... Only 11 points in juries votes!!!!! What happened to friendly neighbourly votes that always pushed Ukraine in top10???? It appears that the current Ukrainian politics is taking its tool in ESC. Their hostile politics towards neighbours (and I am not talking only about Russia) is starting to show slowly. I find this information highly interesting.
2) Sweden bombarding in televote. I really do not like Benjamin nor his song. I find his lisp highly irritating. And as you have noted this year (FINALLY!) - he is the most glaring example of how jury voting and televoting are disconnected for several years now (Portugal last year is the sole exception, but if we ignore Portugal, we find many more awkward examples that suggest jury voting to be more biased than televote).
3) Greece not qualifying. This is still a shock for me, and I am still sorry for Switzerland. I think they should have qualified.
4) In finals, I am quite surprised how low some fan favorite songs have parked. E.g. Bulgaria (I still think they were great) and also France.
5) This year's ESC edition is definitively a wake-up call for Wiwibloggs and some other ESC-fan bloggers. They really overestimate their own influence and (above all) their own musical tastes. Wylon slapped them already at the conference for 2nd semifinal qualifiers, and they made a number of erroneous predictions. In fact, I believe they are the main drive behind the betting odds, which maybe got the winner right this year (but not the last week, as Netta was slowly falling), but many other things were totally wrong with betting odds.

Those are some of the few things that come to my mind. More will follow I guess :)

Lea's performance was flawless, she really nailed it.
And they found a good solution for that "fake mistake": Lea didn't say "can we have the music please", the time till the sound came back was slightly longer and the crowd responded very well.

Yup that was smart. This time she asked to stop the music. Well played Lea! Good job sLOVEnia!

I don't think it has to do with politics. The Ukrainian entry has been rather weak this year, many Ukrainians would agree with that.

I have slammed juries many times already, but this decision is actually fair. The singer didn't even understand the lyrics.

Not understanding the lyrics is even less the reason why Ukraine flopped with juries. As far as I can remember, not a single Ukrainian singer was particulary good at speaking English (someo of them even sang really badly). As for juries fairness towards Ukraine - I don't agree entirely. I think that the guy actually did more than a decent job. Entire Europe is also not stupid nor deaf. So, 7th in televote and 26th in jury votes?!?!?!

On the other hand, Australia was top10 according to juries (though her singing was really really poor) and 26th in televote?!?!?! Something is not right.

I wanted the first point there too.

And agreed, the Austrian result was weird. I suppose it's a simple song that might be radio friendly, but surely juries should aim higher than that? The vocal was ok I guess, but there's more important things like the actual music sung and played. The staging wasn't that great either.

I think she did fine. She said herself that the song was written in 10 minutes, so... She made a great show, and this is the reason why she got to the finals. However, this was the most she could do with this song. Besides, she had also the language problem - I still think she shoul have sang in English in order to get the message through. But this was her own mistake. She did not carefully read the national selection rules this year.

In my opinion, Lea and her qualification is one more proof that ESC is not only about music. It is also a TELEVISION SHOW. Nonetheless, I still love the song and Lea convinced me as personality. Great gurl. I am proud of her.

I thought slovenian lang worked miracles over this. In english it would have been too poor.

A singer's personality is able to add value to a mediocre song. A single language's "personalized color sounds" may deliver more uniqueness.

Both were there to help Slovenia this year...

I disagree with you about the language - I have read comments in YT, and a lot of people were perplexed by the fact they couldn't understand the lyrics and what the song was all about. But as I said, I still consider Lea and her ESC story this year a huge success. She has beaten the odds and shut up many haters. And she did it in such a funny, polite way...

Oh, and one interesting fact. In her interview for our national broadcaster, she said after finals that the winning song is not her cup of tea. I guess she shares the opinion of Slovenians who did not give one single point to Israel - nor juries nor televote. I was quite surprised to see that Slovenians didn't like the chicken dance.

KFC is shook

I see your jury preferred McDonald's (Sweden) and Burger King (Austria) while viewers opted for more traditional cuisines (Serbia, Italy) :D

Hvala, ne! gave the attitude and spice that the every Eurovision final needs. The song was incredibly slick and well-produced. I was surprised this repeatedly slipped under the radar. Slovenia making it to the final is great. If they can produce more entries along the same vein as this one, they can see a top 10 in the near future. The breakdown gimmick thing was always weird to me, but I understood why they took the risk in the semi and now had to live with it in the final because you can't revamp your semi performances. You can tell Lea wanted to qualify and she achieved this goal. It's a cool entry and very well performed, especially vocally considering the constant moving on stage.

Lea was amazing yesterday, as all the other times. I am glad I voted for it and that you didn't finish at the bottom :D
Also happy that our Czech jury gave Lea the highest jury points (7) - they have a taste!

I'm glad she changed the "technical problem"-part a bit and didn't ask for "music". That made it less cringy.

Well, I think cringy is a heavy word. After all, no one will ever please everyone's taste. A lot of people said they liked the trick, and I agree with them. It was well played and well timed.

So, who is right of two of us? Your cringy comment or my superb comment? After all, it was obviously not that cringy if Lea made it to the finals, though everyone predicted and betted that she would end up in the 42nd position...
