It seems like the 2009-2012 system gave more power to televoters than now xthink Russia would have beaten Australia, Poland would have been 6th, Austria would have reached the top 10, while some juries' faves (Malta and Israel) would have suffered even more from the lack of people's support.

On the contrary, the 2013-2015 system was a complete joke (juries' powa fo real) and we would have had another nil pointer, which would have been sad.

I'm genuinely liking the new voting system, which offers both parties a chance to reward their own top 10 without interfering with each other's decision.

Just a question - what is the difference between these two systems? Why does one favor televoting more and what is the difference between ranking your top 10 or all entries?

2009-2012: juries rank top 10, televote ranks top 10, both top 10s are combined and the new top 10 gets the points
2013-2015: juries rank everyone, televote ranks everyone, everything is combined and the top 10 gets the points

http://www.escunited.com/threads/15126-Results-according-to-the-2013-2015-and-2009-2012-methods

the results in this thread are quite different (russia getting second in the first method for example). so what is the truth

Using Excel:

2009-2012: Very simple, every value below 10th place become 11th and then divided with 5 for the juries, adding the result value to the televote ranking giving a new ranking which the Points were awarded on

2013-2015: I divided all jury ranking in one country by 5 and then add that value to the televote ranking.

That´s the methods I have used

oooh i didn't see this before for some reason

this method makes the results skewed because a country that is 1st place with jury would not have a value of 1 like the country that is 1st place with televoting (unless all jurors ranked it 1st), so it creates slight differences when you add both values and that, as it turns out, slightly changes the points that would be given out and slightly favours televote results which is probably why russia and poland ended up getting better placements. but just to confirm i went to the results page and crunched the hypothetical points of a few countries and in both systems they matched the ones in the thread i linked perfectly. i appreciate the work though because this is a good thing to discuss ^_^

and to make it on-topic: the biggest change about this new system is that no point goes to waste; in both previous systems you could land in the top 10 of one or both televote and jury and still get no points (specially in the 2013-2015 system where televote winners could end up entirely snubbed :/). these little points matter a lot for the lower placements - netherlands slips from 11th to 18th in the 2009-2012 system because a bunch of small jury points end up discarded for them. i can't imagine a system that is fairer, so i hope this new system sticks around for a long time!
