José Guardiola, Spanish representative in Eurovision 1963, died earlier today at the age of 81 in Barcelona. He will be remembered as "The Spanish crooner".
Born in 1930, José (Josep) Guardiola became very popular in the 1950s and 1960s, thanks to his covers of American and Italian songs. He also recorded several albums in Catalan.
José Guardiola represented Spain in Eurovision 1963, in London, with the song Algo prodigioso, thus becoming the third Spanish ambassador in the contest. He ended up 12th out of 16 participants that year.
