It's time for my annual review/ranking of all songs. Remember these are just my personal opinions.
First of all, there are too many ballads and down-tempo songs, which makes it hard to rank them. And of course there were also made a ton of random and bad choices in the national pre-selections. It is what it is...
Here I go:
01
I was captivated from first listen. By far the most sophisticated and artistic song this year. If Loreen hadn't won 3 years ago with a somewhat similar style, I would be fangirling so hard over this.
02
Catchy, folksy, gimmicky, original and still classy and modern. Perfect for Eurovision. I want to see this winning.
03
The only thing that stops me from going apeshit crazy over this, is the repetitiveness of the song. Everything else about it and Nina herself is absolutely awesome.
04
My favourite of the ballads. It has just the right amount of sentimentality, which is the key to a good ballad.
05
Great pop song, and relevant message.
06
It is liberatingly different in many ways. A male artist who doesn't sing a love song or a ballad with cheesy strings or a piano. I just can't get over how similar it sounds to Lorde. Very unfortunate.
07
I really like the composition and melody of this song, and based purely on that, it has to be among my favourites.
08
This is the definition of contrived, but it really works. The song is great and Polina is a female heartthrob. I can't resist.
09
This song makes me feel positive. There is something fairytale-ish about it, which I am a sucker for. Deserves to do well.
10
Another very nice pop song. Amber is a bit too "Disney Channel", but the epic chorus makes up for that.
11
cringeworthy, amateurish and childish, but that fiddle is damn catchy.
12
Her voice and stage presence do it for me. The song is also very pretty. The lyrics and their subject is more tiresome than the song itself.
13
A very sterile, clean and repetitive pop song, but the chorus gets me. Maria is "Disney Channel" to the extreme, which annoys me. Put your arm down for goodness' sake, gurl!
14
Another Disney ballad. A good one! I would like it a lot if it wasn't written by four Swedes. I can't trust that.
15
Not as good as "Moj Svijet" but still pretty good. It doesn't sound like something from a musical or Disney film, which is almost outrageous at this point.
16
This is a total pastiche of what the average person would associate with Italian music and culture. So grand and over-the-top, but like Norway, they are successful at it, and I find myself enjoying it.
17
Enjoyable song. Not my usually preferred style, but I can still appreciate it. It's the song you wanna send to your best friend or lover after you've had an argument
18
Not my style, but it's so very stylish, elegant and "correct" which I find charming and annoying at the same time.
19
THIS belongs in a musical! Incredibly incriminating, but the melody itself is fine, and I am slightly carried away by the dramatic ending.
20
Initially I was shocked and offended by the extreme kitsch, but I have since fallen for it. Eurotrash gay anthem in it's purest form.
21
You can feel the longing and melancholy in the chorus. Not something to get excited about, but it's a nice little song.
22
The song is decent and so is the singer, but in the end it's all very forgettable.
23
The mix of the modern "man-pop" genre (Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars etc.) with the half-assed ethno vibes seem so random to me, and the hook is just cringeworthy. At least it's enjoyable for the wrong reasons.
24
A bit cheesy, but it's an okay song I guess.
25
Nice performance. The song starts promising but falls completely flat in the chorus. It tries to launch itself as a big anthemic stomper like "Euphoria", but it just isn't, and the presentation and slick production can't change that.
26
The song can't be excused with the fact it's in the Punk genre. It's still just simple chanting with added guitars and drums to me, but I will say I like how the drums trick my ears. I also love everything else about it. Eurovision needed this so much this year, I'm sure televoters will go crazy and vote for it in protest to the pathetic ballads, and rightfully so!
27
This is a bit too Bruno Mars for me. Fairly catchy, but just not my thing.
28
Everything about it is very likeable, but it doesn't do anything to me.
29
Doesn't catch my attention at all. Just as forgettable as "Diell" which I even liked better. Weird choices.
30
Another song that sounds like it was stolen from a musical. The chorus sucks, but the chaotic part near the end is so great that it's almost enough to forgive the rest.
31
Could you possibly create anything more boring than this within the constraints of a song? Almost not. Then again, I do hear a hint of longing in the chorus, which is kinda touching considering her situation.
32
A decent composition, but ooooh sooooo boooooring.
33
It's hard for me to believe something like this exists in 2015. Sounds like some lost and forgotten boy band's song from 1999, and the worst part is that it's kinda catchy.
34
Song does nothing for me, but I guess they did well in capturing the retro feeling.
35
Song is annoying and sterile as hell.
36
Cringeworthy and uncalled for. This song goes nowhere.
37
This makes me sick. Everything that's wrong with Eurovision these days crammed into one. The only reason I'm not putting it last is that I also try to judge the song objectively, and it's not exactly the worst.
38
Disgustingly contrived and "cute". The song couldn't be more middle-of-the-road, it's a mystery to me why it wasn't in the danish NF.
39
Boring.
40
Trolling as usual without even knowing.
