Welcome to my Pacific Highs (and lows)!

Here I plan on exploring music from the eligible nations of the Pacific Islands: Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. That should keep us entertained for a while.

I'll start my journey in the Polynesian Triangle. Hawaii at the top, New Zealand to the left and Rapa Nui (Easter Island) to the right. Incidentally, only the later one is part of OBA. Another theory states that the navigation pathways of Polynesia more accurately resemble the geometric qualities of an octopus. The animal is the main character of the Polynesian creation myth and symbolizes the link between the Polynesian islands. The tentacles illustrate the 8 routes connecting the islands of Polynesia to Havai'i ("homeland to the Māori people" in Polynesian mythology). Havai'i it the ancient name of Ra'iātea, the second biggest island of the Society Islands (French Polynesia).

Tuvalu - TK Music - Tuu Mo Aganuu
TVBC is proud to announce the participation of Tuvalu for the first time in OM history! xyaaay

With a population of 11 thousand souls, Tuvalu is in the 10 least populated countries and dependencies in the world. (But rest assured, our Polynesian tour will tackle second and third of this ranking as well)

Tuvalu earns money by granting fishing licenses, getting grants from international donors and having an iconic domain name. The country is estimated to earn $10 million a year by leasing .tv to the web-hosting company GoDaddy.

For the 60th edition of OM, TK Music has been chosen to represent the nation in Colima. Amid the great forehead-removal camera work and the thoughtful transitions, one may notice a partnership with Sprint cola that blatantly violates the no-trademark rule of this competition.

::frpo French Polynesia - Tikahiri - Kareho Koe
French Polynesia present Polynesian Goth rock in Pa'umotu, the language spoken in Tuamotu islands. Extending over an area of 850 square kilometers (roughly the size of Western Europe) with 80 islands and atolls, the archipelago constitute the largest chain of atolls in the world.

Through its dark, gothic atmosphere and slick production, Kareho Koe explores the concept of death and its natural place within the journey of life.

Easter Island - Matato'a - E tere
Matato'a create a unique folk rock sound by combining Rapa Nui, Polynesian and Latino styles. They mix traditional instruments such as stones, horse jaws, ukulele, harmonica with electric guitars.

Heiressofthegame ft. Namis - BLESSED

Our Polynesian tour takes us to the third less populated country in the world. With 1935 inhabitants over its 260 km2, the island is commonly referred to as "The Rock".

90 to 95% of Niuean people live in New Zealand. Pacific Island immigration to Aotearoa New Zealand increased after the Second World War and was viewed as the key to success in life. The singer refers to this migration as the "milk and honey movement". She started releasing music when she was homesick at the university of Dunedin (NZ). The song is about her own chasing of the so-called milk and honey, higher education.
