This song is inspired by the plights faced by Inuit mothers past and present. Up until the year 1996, Indigenous Canadian children as young as 4 years old including Inuit Nunavummiut were by law taken from their homes and forced to go to schools. These schools were run by churches and were designed to erase the Indigenous culture. By this policy, mothers could no longer be mothers. They could not pass down their culture to their beloved children.

The practice of residential schools has now ceased. Despite this, Indigenous children are still snatched away from their parents by Canadian government agencies. Indigenous children are extremely over represented in the foster care system to this day. While the government may find some justification for this, it remains true that this colonial force is still strong and at work trying to break Indigenous people down.

Tagaq's song Teeth Agape is a testament to the female beast that is a mother's instincts. Inuit mothers have had their children snatched from them for over a century now. So, at this point, they are on guard, as any mother would be with such intergenerational trauma. Their claws are sharpened, teeth agape.

Here are some resources if you are curious to educate yourselves on the atrocities of the colonial Canadian government:

RE: RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS

RE: THE MODERN FOSTER CARE SYSTEM

This information is not well known outside Canada let alone in Canada. Thank you so much for educating yourself. It is very important that this is known far and wide.

Tagaq's Revenge NF

Tanya Tagaq is back, claws sharpened, teeth agape,
and she's brought some friends from the South.

Oh, you're a colonizer.
Oh, you're guilty.

Aimed at:
John A. Macdonald (First Prime Minister of Canada)
&
The clergy who ran Canada's residential schools
+
Vladimir Vladimirovich

Tanya enlisted her Southern Canadian friends for support in her WV revenge, but clearly she can handle it on her own.

This song did not pull it out until the very last moment. I'm glad it did.

BIIIG thank you to all who voted xheart
