Who would have a problem with you, Flo? You are the one bringing good vibes to WV xheart

Hip is a risky genre imo, nothing to do with negative vibes, I’m sure!

I’ll keep your project love by spreading love: I love you Flo because you’ve always had very nice words for me. Also: I love you Deniz because you haven’t judged me and you’ve listened to me like few people have done; I love you Ashley because you make me laugh and have a lot in common with you; I love you Laura because you never have a negative attitude here; I love you Kai because you are a very sweet person and because I understand many of your problems. I have love for everybody, who else wants it?

I know this topic on vacation, but I don't know if you've seen this or not. Quite possibly the funniest and most charming Nardwuar interview ever. Almost wet myself at the classic "doot doola doot doo" moment.

Re: Northeastern USA

Oh, hi :neus: !

I arrived and wanna become thread owner xacademic

This is my debut entry for Northeastern States...

:neus: WV 102: Angelo Badalamenti - Falling (feat. Julee Cruise) :neus:

Actually I wanted to go with something very different. I wanted to send a chrismassy soundtrack. However, when I saw Calvin would host the edition in the city of Twin Peaks the situation immediately changed. I took a look into my NEUS shortlist and read the name Badalamenti here (had him before in one of my Murica NFs back in the WV 60s so I obviously wanted to give him another chance) and then my decision was made pretty quickly. a Twin Peaks theme edition deserves a Twin Peaks soundtrack. But instead of choosing an instrumental I decided to chose a song with dreamy and atmospherical vocals by one of the early dream pop queens, namely Julee Cruise xlove I hope you enjoy!

Re: Northeastern USA

After my slightly shocking and unlucky failure with Julee (which ended my streak of 10 consecutive finals) I will try something different in next edition. Let's give me some hints.

- It is a woman again
- she has been in WV before. More than once, actually.
- I will send her break-through song
- it is a dark-ish baroqoe pop ballad

I feel like I wrote too much already. xshifty

Re: Northeastern USA

:neus: WV 103: Lana del Rey - Video Games :neus:

Lyrics

Swinging in the backyard
Pull up in your fast car
Whistling my name
Open up a beer
And you say, Get over here
And play a video game

I'm in his favourite sun dress
Watching me get undressed
Take that body downtown
I say you the bestest
Lean in for a big kiss
Put his favourite perfume on
Go play a video game

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell me all the things you want to do
I heard that you like the bad girls
Honey, is that true?
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if somebody is loving you
Baby, now you do

Singing in the old bars
Swinging with the old stars
Living for the fame
Kissing in the blue dark
Playing pool and wild darts
Video games

He holds me in his big arms
Drunk and I am seeing stars
This is all I think of
Watching all our friends fall
In and out of Old Paul's
This is my idea of fun
Playing video games

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell me all the things you want to do
I heard that you like the bad girls
Honey, is that true?
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if somebody is loving you
Baby, now you do

Now you do, now you do, now you do
Now you do, now you do, now you do

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell me all the things you want to do
I heard that you like the bad girls
Honey, is that true?
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if somebody is loving you
Baby, now you do

Now you do, now you do, now you do
Now you do
Now you do, now you do, now you do

:neus: WV 104: Sufjan Stevens - Blue Bucket of Gold :neus:

Lyrics

One, two, three

My blue bucket of gold
Friend, why don’t you love me?
Once the myth has been told
The lens deforms it as lightning

Raise your right hand
Tell me you want me in your life
Or raise your red flag
Just when I want you in my life

Search for things to extol
Friend, the fables delight me
My blue bucket of gold
Lord, touch me with lightning

Raise your right hand
Tell me you want me in your life
Or raise your red flag
Just when I want you in my life

Two minutes of celestial magic xheart

My PQ song is a wonderful and poignant song with a sad background story. It is the last song of his 2015 masterpiece album ”Carrie & Lowell” which was dedicated to his mum, Carrie, who died short time before the release due to cancer. His mom left him when he was young and hardly cared for him since she was alcoholic and schizophrenic. Just when they reconciled with each other she died. In this album he copes with his sorrow. On the one hand he forgives her but on the other hand there are emotions like confusion, sadness and anger. Moreover, his desire for a closer relationsship to his mom is noticeable in some songs.

This song do have an amazing ambient outro and for me that’s probably the icing on the cake. His explanation: “I didn’t know my mom well in a lot of ways and I didn’t know how to say goodbye on the last track with articulation. So I quit playing piano and vocals and just stopped. I wanted to surrender her to the beyond with noises that sound bigger than just me.” xfaint
In live shows the ambient outro is extra large and something you would hear in Sigur Rós album. It even turns post-rock towards the end. Look at this video. Amazing. Sufjan Stevens is one of my singer-songwriters cause he combines genuine emotions, good storytelling and gentle vocals. Let alone the dreamy bits that often characterize his songs.

This song was already part of one of my NFs while I was US juror. I called them "Muricavision" back then and it took part in Muricavision for WV 63. It became 2nd out of 6 and only lost so Montana by Youth Lagoon. I chose this as my PQ song now because Sufjan so far always failed in semi finals and I didnt want it to happen again. So I gave him the safe final ticket he's deserved for a long time. :)Moreover, a PQ song must be something special so this was the first song that came into my mind.

:neus: WV 105: Gem Club - Polly :neus:

Lyrics

We were lost
How you felt us
Drifting from
Our nature
Towards that place
Have nothing

I see you there
Waiting cold
I see you there
Waiting cold

POLLY
NEED YOU NOW THAT YOU'RE GONE
Polly
Need you now that you're gone
Polly
I need you now that you're gone

POLLY
NEED YOU NOW THAT YOU'RE GONE
Polly
Need you now that you're gone

Re: Northeastern USA - WV 105: Gem Club - Polly

Oh shame, I neglected my green room the last couple of editions...

Here we go again!

:neus: WV 108: Asobi Seksu – Red Sea :neus:

Lyrics

Fourteen quiet days
These hours just slept in your place
White sand and a vague
Sense of youth
How can I get through?
It's a violent truth
That I'm like you

Sixteen lonely hours
No sun or depth
Fifteen dreams of you all alone
But still far from reach
Crosses traced in white sand
It's a violent truth
That I'm like you

You said the first time was so perfect
But the rest was all just wrong
You said there's too many gone too long (x 2)

Fourteen quiet days
These hours just slept in your place
White sand and a vague
Sense of youth
How can I get through?
It's a violent truth
That I'm like you

You said the first time was so perfect
But the rest was all just wrong
You said there's too many gone too long (x 2)

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na

You said the first time was so perfect
But the rest was all just wrong
You said there's too many gone too long (x 2)

----------------

I terminate my turbulent NEUS era with Asobi Seksu, a former Shoegaze/Dream Pop band that was quite important for this genre right when it seemed to cease. Especially their 2006 album "Citrus" received critical acclaim and reached the 21st place in the UK indie album charts back then.
The song I choose is the most monumental and possibly the most elaborate song of that album (yet not the most famous) called Red Sea. If I had to compare the song to other WV artists of mine, I would say the song is somewhere between Klimt 1918 and Glasvegas, but much more noisy. The voice of the Japanese-born lead singer Yuki Chikudate however is maybe something between Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins. Hard to say.
By the way, "Asobi Seksu" is Japanese and means "Playful Sex" . Isn't this wonderful?

Re: Northeastern USA - WV 108: Asobi Seksu – Red Sea

whiteshoes I wasn't paying attention properly to the songs at the LL as I was still finishing off parts of the show, but boy did this make me stop what I was doing. That distorted guitar destroyed me. It's so dreamy and noisy. Just a total eargasm of a listen. I love when a song is so melodically bright and drenched in a sunshine vibe yet is so (excuse my language) fucked up and dirty. Pretty much why I fell in love with the genre of garage rock because it was all uplifting stuff with this dirty edge that just really clicked with me. This is perhaps my favourite thing you've sent in quite a while. Thanks for the introduction to this band. I so need to check them out. This is too cool an entry.

Get both your maple syrup and your grits ready: for next edition, I'm getting some help from the South to send a song about getting some help from the North!

So I had a little bit of an eligibility headache, BUT, fun fact, this hint still mostly applies! Here's another.

Re: Northeastern USA - WV 115 NF On The Way

WV 1156 NF: Lilith Fair

In the 90s, a group of women got together to put together a music festival which revolutionized what the festival experience was for both artists and audiences. It's a big part of why the current festival circuit has been easy to adapt to the 21st century, and it's hosted some of my favorite artists, including the ones in the NF below, as well as LVER WV and NF alumni like Sara Bareilles, Lucinda Williams, Xtine, and the Indigo Girls - fun connection this: the 2010 revival also featured 2019 Esk contestant Kate Miller-Heidke! I was reading this fantastic series of interviews with a lot of the folks involved https://www.vanityfair.com/style/20...ial&utm_social-type=owned&utm_source=facebook and felt inspired to put on this NF of Lilith Fair alumni.

Song 1: Fast Car - Tracy Chapman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwrHwZyFN7M
Song 2: Verdi Cries - Natalie Merchant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5A_TTjbOIQ
Song 3: Making Pies - Patty Griffin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HC7KABegj0
Song 4: Love Is a Battlefield - Pat Benetar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGVZOLV9SPo
Song 5: Final Hour - Lauryn Hill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VnAdQghhOY
Song 6: World Spins Madly On - The Weepies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4sa2HoXpsE

Voting system: Pick any 6 of 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-0. Skip whichever point values you'd like; no repeats
Deadline: Friday November 15th 23:59 CET
Happy: listening and voting! :D

Thank you for voting:
Lupus, Charly, Anaraqueen, FabiESC, RainyWoods, Eulaliya, whiteshoes, and ZoboCamel

On hiatus; I'll reopen voting during the 116 NF period :D
