Re: New York, New York - WV56: Lady Gaga - "Bad Romance" - NF for 57 on Page 13 - Quick Survey on Page 15

I can't answer 2 & 3, but I'll answer the rest:

1. REM - The Great Beyond xlove
4. Well... it depends on the songs, really... if you make an NF with 12 pop dance songs then I'll hate it, but if you make a NF with 12 instrumentals, I'll love it. whiteshoes made a bigger NF with only instrumentals and it was one of the best NFs I've ever voted in.

And finally:

Cote D'Ivoire: initial reaction?
Yaya Toure  No really, he's the first person that comes to mind when I think Cote D'Ivoire  Anyway, of course it would be a great choice. Now, I know nothing about the Ivorian music scene, but I'm almost sure it's way different that what western Europe and North America has to offer. Diversity is always welcome ;)

I will admit that I had to look up who Yaya Toure was

Thank you again to those who've done the survey. By the by, we still have an NF going on and an entry to lead in the final, so I'd really appreciate it if y'all were to check either of those out! :D

1. Don't wait up
2. I think your first :mk: entry because I don't even remember it.
3. Sylvester and some other classics I don't remember right now.
4. I can take big ones, no problem... I can be a power voter (sometimes)
5. Cotê d'Ivoire would be amazing, we are lacking of African countries in WV so it will be at least interesting to get to know something from their music scene.

Good god. Thank you all so, so, so, so much for 2nd with an artist and song that I hold so unbelievably dear. Additionally, a special thank you to all who were patient with me as I gave going with a well-known number a try.

Re: New York, New York - WV56: Lady Gaga - "Bad Romance" - NF for 57 on Page 13 - Quick Survey on Page 15

Inspired by Carrie, I decided to make a list of my favorite WV discoveries, except 40 instead of 30 since I'm not as good at narrowing things down :(
Two ground rules:
1. I'm defining "discovery" as "song I wouldn't have known if it hadn't been for the juror." Strangely, this means songs like "Cheap Flights," which Robert showed me months before this edition, count, while "Femme Fatale," which I'd occasionally listen to with my mom growing up, does not.
2. I joined WV I think before the semis ended in 48? However, I only started listening to the songs in the 48 Final. This means that I'm not counting any NQs from WV 48, which you'll realize because "Muukalainen" hasn't stormed into my top 10. Carrie, take heart in knowing that it would have if I'd started in the semis or if it'd qualified like it fecking deserved to.
So without further ado:

If someone could make these all into a giant multi-part recap I'd love that xheat

Great list xbow

I'm happy that some of my songs became a nice discovery for you and at the same time I feel honoured xheart
3rd and 14th place.. wow xheat Don't worry I still have enough Sigur Rós/Jonsí songs up my sleeve. Saving them for the future
I feel a bit bad that so far I couldn't return the favour by giving points to you (apart of the 1 point in WV 55)... your songs have been mostly nice but there were always at least 10 better songs. However I'm sure that one day there will be a breakthrough and I will throw the points to you. Maybe already in next WV if the right songs win :p

Re: New York, New York - WV56: Lady Gaga - "Bad Romance"

Here we go. Allow me to present to you my favorite NF that I've ever done in WV. Quens of Yesteryear are kind of my trademark, as are the genres they occupy, so I'm really, really, really excited to be sending one for next edition. Let us begin with a trip to the Great White Way!
1. Another Hundred People - Pamela Myers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LBP72HPVBE
2. Song on the Sand - Gene Barry HA A MALE QUEN BET YOU WEREN'T EXPECTING THAT CURVEBALL (fun fact: I had this stuck in my head in the shower this morning and felt a tear prick my eye on "something about...always") https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USbqg2GddMM Horrid audio quality and wrong singer but still a version if you can't view that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYAHkm0t-mY
3. Everything's Coming Up Roses - Ethel Merman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s62MrU8mHx4
4. Nothing - Priscilla Lopez https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob4ZmHKbD28
Off to Harlem now for some jazz!
5. Everybody Eats When they Come to My House - Cab Calloway https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E03NZOIxGmQ
6. Stompin' at the Savoy - Ella Fitzgerald This was the first time I ever felt competely blown away by a song, all the way back when I was 7 and my music teacher was teaching us about Ella. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKD9bziy7Ng
Now to the group offerings!
7. One Fine Day - The Chiffons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvyOqKhKWQ4
8. Verdi Cries - 10,000 Maniacs (this was the song of which I spoke above, by the by) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nci8wxDEcHs
9. Because the Night - Patti Smith Group https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0peTfMOdDoo
It's the time to disco!
10. This Is It - Melba Moore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trYyJALYgo0
11. Shame - Evelyn Champagne King https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sYSwfuL0vc
12. No More Tears (Enough is Enough) - Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vn-nw0o-CyA
Deadline 17 December at 18:00 CET, but you'll have a while. Votes 15-12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-0. Happy listening! :D

Tagging Krishoes RainyWoods cegs5 and Lupus because I think they'll be the only ones slayed rather than killed by this NF.

Copying for convenience purposes :)

When it came on in the LL, I was almost scared of how haunting and bleak and beautiful it was - like the sad scene in every indie rom-com I've ever loved, and it's only grown on me since. Thank you for introducing me to it. xheart

Well-deserved!

I like your entries pretty consistently, but that's the one that really struck me the most. Her voice was so shrieky and intriguing, and the build with that drum background slays me. Of course, a little part of me feels guilty that the one of your consistently strong entries that REALLY broke through with me is the one you termed a guilty pleasure, but when the song's so awesome, I'm not complaining!
