I'd love to find out what are some of the main songs from different national finals over the years that you're still hung up on and wish would've won the right to represent their country? Can be both from your own country or some other. :)

I'm still probably most bitter about the fact that :ee: Rolf Junior - One On One xheart didn't win in 2008, because it's one of my favourite songs that has ever graced any national final to this day and a stroke of genius imo since I can't stand his other songs. :(

Sertab Erener was internally selected in 2003...

TRT requested 2 english & 2 turkish songs from the singer. Here I am was one of the composed songs for Eurovision. Technically it is not a NF entry but in theory it is one of them.

Apart from FdC only really started following NFs of other countries more closely since 2015. So not many pop to mind:

:rs: 2015 - Danica Krstic - Suze za kraj (this one made me really upset considering it lost to that mega-hyped Bojana Stamenov song that ended up flopping big time at ESC in the end. Would have loved to have seen this beautiful ballad in Serbian instead...think it would have done much better - as other Serbian ballads did in the past)

:by: 2015 - BeatreeS - Fighter - actually many others come to mind (Band Napoli, Daria, Gunesh, Janet, Tasha Odi) but this was my personal favorite then. I think watching Rybak's Milki girls with Accent would have even been more interesting to see following the :pl: My Slowianie great result of 2014. Instead we got that boring violin song..

:de: 2000 - Knorkator - Ick wer zu Schwein (These guys are a class act and have been one of those bands I have liked for a long time now so I am not sure what ESC would have done to them career-wise but considering how non-serious/funny songs became a trend a few later years on...they could have pulled a Lordi 6 years earlier. Surely not as easy on the ears and pop friendly as the Kiss inspired band but would have at least created more buzz than the overrated bore that is Stefan Raab. And there was nothing to lose really, considering Germany had sent Guildo Horn just a couple of years earlier..)

Haven't really had the chance to follow Melodifestivalen from that close but still fail to understand how :se: Jenny Silver never managed to get into a NF. At least with "Something in your eyes". So ESC-friendly..

And agreed with Oscar Zia's Human vs. the mumbling kid of a few months ago.

Keep coming with your replies, this is a great source of information for FdN whenever it comes back :rolleyes::rolleyes:

How can a 10th place be considered a big flop?

Yeah, especially considering that expectations weren't super high for how it would do until after its semi performance.

If I remember correctly some people were feeling quite in fever for that kitsch Bojana act and claiming it would be a favorite for the win. I don't remember exactly how the bookies actually placed it but the idea I have is that it didn't differ much from the fanboys...

I was glad when a reality check came in time during SF1 anyway. Europe sort of saw then what I had seen months earlier during the Serbian NF. Who remembers her these days anyway? I mean, her song...she herself might be a memorable figure of recent years for the obvious reasons.

I was reminded of :de: Unheilig in 2014 now...just like Knorkator, old personal favorite but none of their German NF songs were special at all. So in the end I wasn't too bothered that they did not make it in the end. But ofc a bit sad for Der Graf's personal ambitions still.
