TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE

Since you weren’t too interested in the location (other than the brewery) yesterday, we decided to get down to business and reveal you who will be hosting our three spectacular shows. You already know both of them, you voted for them in the last edition, and this is not the first time you have done that. Please prepare for Declan McKenna and Alex Lawther.

Yes yes, Declan McKenna is certainly no stranger to the Natian audience as 204th Nation Song Contest was his fourth and by far the most successful attempt to win the trophy. For Doire, he won second place with the song Why Do You Feel So Down? (NSC153) and sixth place with the absolutely ingenious Rapture (NSC 194). New Bander State was also second with the song British Bombs (NSC175) and, finally, he repeated second place for the Griffin Empire, achieving incredible debut success with the song The Key to Life on Earth (NSC204). He initially gained recognition for winning the Glastonbury Festival's Emerging Talent Competition in 2015. McKenna self-released the song Brazil, a protest song criticising FIFA and the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil, as his debut single in December 2014. The song reached number one on Sirius XM Radio's Alt Nation Alt 18 Countdown for 23 January 2016 and held that spot for three weeks. The song also reached number 16 on the U.S. Billboard Alternative Songs chart. He released his debut studio album, What Do You Think About the Car?, on 21 July 2017. McKenna released his second studio album, Zeros, on 4 September 2020, after multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will find out tomorrow what and with whom Declan will sing during our three shows.

Declan will be accompanied by a colleague from the video, his dear friend - Alex Lawther, who was claimed to look like Declan until they stood shoulder to shoulder. This young, extremely talented actor made his professional acting debut originating the role of John Blakemore in Sir David Hare's South Downs in the West End. He made his feature film debut playing a young Alan Turing in the Academy Award-winning film The Imitation Game (2014), for which he received the London Film Critics' Circle Award for "Young British Performer of the Year" and was declared one of BAFTA's 2015 Breakthrough Brits.

He achieved more mainstream success for his role as Kenny in Shut Up and Dance, an episode of the Netflix anthology series Black Mirror (2016), and for portraying the lead role of James in the Channel 4 series The End of the F***ing World (2017–2019). His other notable work includes his roles in Freak Show, Howards End, Goodbye Christopher Robin, Ghost Stories, and The Last Duel. He is known for his frequent portrayals of emotionally unstable or disturbed young men and LGBT youth.

Wake up besties!
There are three days left until the end of the applications, and we are missing some key players. More precisely, 25 of them. Hurry up, so that your tile on the table changes colour from blue to purple as well.

WE TRIED TO BEAT SANREMO

What’s the secret to a five-hour show? A deep well of interval and opening acts. Interestingly, the original idea was not to overwhelm the show with side performances, but in the end we’re pretty sure we overtook Sanremo on this issue. You already know about Declan McKenna, but let's see who else will sing to us?

We think that the decision for the previous winners to open the entire festival is pretty rational, so I Am Not OK by KAZKA will be heard at the NSC once again. The second semi-final will be opened by the second-placed song The Key to Life on Earth, which will be sung by our host Declan McKenna. And finally, the grand finale will be opened with a perfomance called Ode to Sundfør in which we will walk through five incredibly good songs that Sundfør sent to our favourite competition. The performers of this medley are: Barbora Poláková, MARUV & BOOSIN, Sir Sly, SHANGUY, and of course the current (double) winners - KAZKA.

And then we discovered that we liked the idea of medley a lot, so we copied it for all three interval acts. In an attempt to introduce Griffin music to Natia a little faster than waiting for a couple more NSC editions, nine (out of eleven) winners of the Griffin national festival Griffiniskaja Laul will perform as an interval act in the first semi-final in a medley we named What about Laul?. So, in the first semi-final we shall hear Greyson Chance, MIKA, IIRIS, Miriam Bryant, Liis Lemsalu, Ashe & FINNEAS, Christopher, Claire Laffut & Yseult, and finally Mikael Gabriel & nublu. The second semi-final will be focused on Griffin music as well and under the title Griffin Legacy we will hear 6 Griffin winners of the Waiting List Song Contest. Among them are URBAN SYMPHONY, Ewert and The Two Dragons, Belinda Carlisle and Astrid S, and the other two GL winners - O-Zone and Zoi.

In the finale, the story heats up. The winner of the 239th Waiting List Song Contest, Empress Of from Öösingimäed will sing her winning song Save Me, followed by KAZKA and Declan McKenna in the Tiebreaker medley with three songs each, which we won't reveal yet, but let's say it will include some of their previous NSC hits.

WE ALSO DECIDED WHO WILL VOTE WHERE
Thanks to the gods of the internet, we had the opportunity to virtually turn the Wheel of Names and decide which prequalified countries will vote in which semi-final. We spun it three times for groups 1', 4a and 6', which automatically gave us the answers for the remaining three countries from groups 4a, 4b and 6'. Interestingly, the wheel chose the first semifinal all three times. You can see the complete process on the gif in the spoiler.

Oh wow cool, everyone is getting unique Griffinskaja names, I wonder what Doi......oh :(
Not to be J. K. Rowling and add some unrelated stuff after I have written what I planned, but oi is in Griffin /oj/ and the ë at the end is /e̞:/, so it's meant to be different. 🙏🏻
