This is a very weak session. Probably the weakest one we had so far. The only song that I really liked was "Rise". It guides you thru emotions that are hard to explain. The other songs are bad or not more than middle-of-the road.
Rainy, Morocco, you and me as a professional jury, picked the entry for Malta - "Rise", let's quit the contest now! xlove xheart xbow

Overall I think Malta gets a bless/10 from me. Awwww 🥺 I needed to take a few minutes after Rise before continuing my listening session. I was so overwhelmed by it. It's humongous. My first goosebumps moment of the year. Emma Muscat's song is great and I think I'll like it more with each listen. If Richard Edwards committed murder in front of me I'd probably let him get away with it. I shouldn't like Hey Little at all but it seems this man never fails to charm me. Serenity I thought was adorable and sincere. Gave me some male Eva Cassidy vibes. Other than those four, I'm not super wild for anything else but Ritmu stands out and might be a nice choice. Some of these scores are overly generous of me but it's Malta. It's not right to kick puppies.

Wow, so this was really disappointing!

From snippets I thought there's going to be few songs that I'm really going to like, but now I'm so disappointed I can't even pick one.

Also, those videos are horrendous. I noticed that songs become a bit better when you don't look at stupid and awkward faces they make in camera. Great job, person who came up with this, great job. Not everybody can kill 22 songs with one move.

Are Emma and Jessika related in some way? Because I have both Muscats in my top 2! xheya

Let's wait for live shows, but so far i'm rooting for those:

1-Emma Muscat "Out of Sight"
2-Jessika "Kaleidoscope"
3-Denise "Boy"
4-Sarah Bonnici "Heaven"

And yes, i did woke up at 3:30 to listen to maltese songs :pxmusic

That was tough to sit through, not gonna lie. Why are there so many bland ballads? Half of them sound exactly the same, totally generic, boring and unrelateable. People always complain about generic dancepop but at least they are quick and dynamic but a generic ballad just drags on.

Well I genuinely liked three songs:

Denise - "Boy"
Aidan Cassar - "Ritmu"
Richard Edwards - "Hey Little"

Songs that aren't great but at least fun to sit through:

Nicole Azzopardi - „Into the Fire“
Jessica Grech - „Aphrodisiac“
Baklava ft. Nicole - "Electric Indigo" (the production is so bad, which is part of the entertainment value)

Songs that aren't my cup of tea but could find an audience:

Miriana Conte - „Look What You've Done Now“
Giada - „Revelacion“
Matt Blxck - „Come Around“

Maybe the ugly videos dragged the overall impression down but as of now I think all of these would struggle to qualify. Let's hope they have a good stage show to turn things around.

I relistened to the songs a second time, as I thought I missed something, but unfortunately I couldn't change my opinion. The only song I really love is "Rise", my ears caught another second song that is okay - "Shame". But the rest doesn't do anything for me. Definitely the weakest section so far - unless the other songs from Ireland are as weak as the first two released songs that is.

Based on the recap it all feels very homogenous. Most of them sound like they could be singing the same song. (to be fair it probably doesn't help that the recap has them all performing over the same white background)

This NF starting with an icon such as Aidan gave me way more hype than it should've, the overall level is disappointing. Nothing outrageously bad though.

Aidan - Ritmu 9/10 (nowhere near the level of "Naħseb Fik" sadly)
Nicole Hammett - A Lover's Heart 8/10
Giada - Revelación 8/10
Nicole Azzopardi - Into The Fire 8/10
Francesca - Rise 8/10
Emma Muscat - Out Of Sight 7/10
Miriana Conte - Look What You've Done Now 7/10
Baklava ft. Nicole - Electric Indigo 7/10
MATT BLXCK - Come Around 7/10
Richard Edwards - Hey Little 7/10
Mark Anthony Bartolo - Serenity 6/10
Raquel - Over You 6/10
Sarah Bonnici - Heaven 6/10
Jessika - Kaleidoscope 6/10
Malcolm Pisani - We Came For Love 6/10
Jessica Grech - Aphrodisiac 5/10
Enya Magri - Shame 5/10
Norbert - How Special You Are 4/10
Denise - Boy 4/10
Derrick - II 3/10
Rachel Lowell - White Doves 3/10
Janice Mangion - Army 3/10

Typical Maltese selection. I mean: genuinely bad, but funny.

Strangely, the two songs that caught my attention for very different reasons are full or partially in Maltese: Aidan Cassar's "Ritmu" should be revamped in a more in-your-face way, when Nicole Hammett's package is interesting (probably weak in a Eurovision contest anyway).

Into the "Why not?" category: Nicole Azzopardi and Baklava + Nicole (so old-fashioned), Francesca, possibly Matt BLXCK (so bad it's... not good, but not THAT bad) and Richard Micalmef/Edwards, except for this awful monosyllabic chorus.
