I’m not a fan of this method of selection, never have been. Just compete with a song so then at least the voting public know it’s a good song as well as artist

Same here.

Especially if the runner-up could have been given a better song.
They were lucky with Eden Golan who was able to turn a slightly generic ballad into gold but it doesn't make sense to select an artist without knowing their song for Eurovision.

It's not as bad as our German 2014 & 2015 formula in which we voted on artists not giving them the chance to perform their 2nd song (all competing artists had two songs for Eurovision but most of them got deleted in round 1 - not having the chance to perform the second song which were arguably better )

The Council of RTVSLO has just decided the following:

The management of RTV Slovenia should immediately initiate a request within the framework of the EBU that Israel not perform at the Eurovision Song Contest. The RTV Council and the public should be kept informed of the efforts.

They were also thinking about withdrawing in case of Israel's participation.

First off I think this comment is more appropriate in the Slovenian thread rather this one.

I saw the solutions they put in the proposal. It is strictly against EBU rules to omit showing any country's performances. RTVSLO knows if they don't show they would be unallowed to take part. They are just pandering to a certain audience. I will leave it at that.

The final is set. Israeli Christian- Arab singer Valery Hamati is the favorite. She was runner up in HaKokhav HaBa in 2021 the year Eden Alen was give another chance. Red Band (who is a puppet) & Moran Aharoni are the more alternative gimmick act but are in with a chance as well.

Valerie Hamaty seems to be a great vocalist.
If she gets picked, I'd like her to perform in Arabic as well.
I don't know if that's going to happen given the current circumstances (war, ceasefire) but she sounds great in this performance and it's her heritage/part of her identity.
Maybe ditching English & singing in Hebrew and Arabic would be a good choice this time?

Moran & Red Band would be an eye-catcher for sure. Of course, it's a bit of a gimmick but I watched two videos of them as well and in terms of singing, they are great as well and it's definitely not a Dustin the Turkey scenario here... maybe sending a Puppet with band singing about love would mute all "political propaganda" talks? Something which will definitely happen if Israel selects Valerie.
I like her performances so far but some narrow-minded people will hold it against her that she's a Christian Arab Israeli citizen. Even though her song might be apolitical... who knows...
