...and thanks to empo, Mike and Robert xcheer

I realized I made a mistake. The version of Án Þín I had chosen initially is cut off ten seconds early, sothat the music just ends abruptly. Now I replaced it by a full version, but I suppose those ten seconds don't impact your votings anyway :)

At the moment the ranking looks like this: 52-44-41-40

The first place has a comfortable lead by now, but 2-3 more voters can change the ranking crucially!

Please Help me deciding for my entry, guys! Come on :D xcheer

Deadline is: 21st July, 14:00 CET

Jeez, forgot Green Room Post.

Here you go:

:is: WV 127: Trúbrot – Án Þín :is:

Lyrics & Translation

Allt er svo eymdarlegt án þín hér
án þín ei sólin lengur skín hér
Alein ég arka nið'rað sjó
því er þú fórst þá eitthvað í mér dó.
Ég horf' á hafið því að þú ert þar
ég hvísla nafn þitt en fæ ekkert svar
Allt er svo eymdarlegt án þín hér.
Komdu til mín... Komdu til mín...
Everything is so miserable without you,
without you the sun is no longer shining
I went down to the sea alone
When you died, something inside of me died, too.
I look at the sea, because you are there.
I whisper your name but don't get an answer.
Everything is so miserable without you
Come to me... come to me...
Allt er svo eymdarlegt án þín hér
án þín ei sólin lengur skín hér
Alein ég arka nið'rað sjó
því er þú fórst þá eitthvað mér dó.
Ég horf' á hafið því að þú ert þar
ég hvísla nafn þitt en fæ ekkert svar
Everything is so miserable without you,
without you the sun is no longer shining
I went down to the sea alone
When you died, something inside of me died, too.
I look at the sea, because you are there.
I whisper your name but don't get an answer.
Allt er svo eymdarlegt án þín hér
Allt er svo eymdarlegt án þín hér.
Everything is so miserable without you
Everything is so miserable without you
Ég horf' á hafið því að þú ert þar.
ég hvísla nafn þitt en fæ ekkert svar
Allt er svo eymdarlegt án þín hér
Allt er svo eymdarlegt án þín hér.
Komdu til mín... Komdu til mín...
I look at the sea, because you are there.
I whisper your name but don't get an answer.
Everything is so miserable without you
Everything is so miserable without you
Come to me... come to me...
Ó, komd' af sjónum. Komdu - komdu heim.
Mig langar þér að taka höndum tveim
ég horf' á hafið því að þú ert þar
ég hvísla nafn þitt en fæ ekkert svar.
Oh, get out of the sea. Come, come home.
I want to hold your hands (want you to hold my hands?)
I look at the sea, because you are there.
I whisper your name but don't get an answer.
Allt er svo eymdarlegt án þín hér.
Allt er svo eymdarlegt án þín hér.
Komdu til mín... Komdu til mín...
Everything is so miserable without you
Everything is so miserable without you
Come to me... come to me...

SÖNGVAKEPPNIN 128: "BURY THE MOON"

71B7f0vJnnL._SY355_.jpg

For WV 128 I put my trust into one of my dearest artists and singers overall; a guy whose debut album back then broke multiple records in Iceland, a guy who was my most listened artist around 2014-2015, a guy who I've already seen live on stage and who I sent thrice to WV. If this wasn't enough already, he is also partly responsible for my nickname choice.

Ladies and gentlemen, give a warm welcome to...

Ásgeir!
Although I still have plenty of older songs of him up my sleeve I decided to follow my heart and only focus on his latest album in this NF, that got released in February and that is named "Bury the Moon". It was released together with "Sátt" which consists of the same songs only with Icelandic lyrics. I choose the English versions of the songs simply because I can find all of them on YouTube more or less unrestricted. There was an issue with one song only, but I will explain it later. As far as I know, his songs are first written in Icelandic mostly with lyrics by his amazing dad Einar Georg, who is an acclaimed and notorious poet in Iceland. The english translation are written by Ásgeirs good friend John Grant, an polyglot singer-songwriter from the USA who has been living in Iceland for many years now, though. I also gave him a shot at WV, back in edition 68, I believe.

The selection is a colourful mixture of different approaches. Catchy indie-pop, dreamy guitar folk, nostalgic folk-pop, one dramatic synth- and strings driven ballad...

Here they are:

1. Youth

2. Eventide

3. Lazy Giants

4. Rattled Snow

5. Until Daybreak

Youth was one of the pre-released songs, the first one to be precise. It is a nostalgic reflection of his childhood... the time when you just could go out and play, without having to care about duties and stuff.

Eventide is the most stripped-down song of the album but also the bitter-sweetest. It is about the loss of a beloved person.

Lazy Giants is another pre-released song, that criiticizes the economic growth and the risk of a collapse. The inspiration for the video, a lot of different frames of him playing the song in different locations , comes from Kurt Viles and Courtney Barnetts video for their song "Over Everything"

Rattled Snow is one of the darkest, most dramatical, yet most electronic and most modern songs of the album. The lyrics were written by a friend of Ásgeir, named Julius, who was thinking about a conversation he had with another friend that had a rough childhood. He was telling him about these walls he had built around him made of rocks, where no one could reach him, hurt or love him. he had not been happy there but it felt like a safe place. However, when he spoke to Julius the sun was beginning to shine through the walls and it was getting warmer inside.

Until Daybreak is an incredibly catchy tune with a very peculiar chord progression. Ásgeir stated he wasn't convinced of this song at the beginning, however I loved this straight away. Sadly however, I had to go with a shortened 3:00 minutes version (Eurovision says hello, lol) he once uploaded on YouTube. There is missing an intermediate part before the last chorus and the intro, amongst other parts. The original 4:30 minutes version is nowhere in YouTube. The Icelandic version "Hringsol" you can find at least twice. One version available only in Germany-Austria-Switzerland and another version available in countries like UK, Italy, Poland, however not in Germany, France, USA and Canada, for example. Long story short: There was no unrestriced version of that song in YouTube, that's why I chose the cut version of the song. But I think the 3:00 minutes version is nice anyway :)

+++ Btw, The most songs here seem to banned in Denmark (for whatever reason). So if you are from Denmark or reside there right now and want to vote here, just let me know +++

You can this time rate each song individually from 1 to 10 (no 12 this time, I think 1 to 10 is enough choice)

Informations about the deadline you will get early enough

Thanks for your attention xcheer

Voted: :us: :cn: :cl: :kyus:hu :sc: :kr: :jp::pe: :bg: :ir:

:is: WV 128: Ásgeir – Rattled Snow :is:

Lyrics

Fire of life beloved
Flows over the mountains dim and gray
Designing cloud formations
Shrouded with desires from ancient times

In silence you wait patiently for spring
And in this calm another day comes forth

Sun beams cloak with fiery rays
The outline of the hills
Spreading over rocks and rattled snow
You walked here long ago

Don't you know my dear friend
This world can be warm as well as cold
Tear down the walls around you
Happiness will find you once again

In silence you wait patiently for spring
And in this calm another day comes forth

Sun beams cloak with fiery rays
The outline of the hills
Spreading over rocks and rattled snow
You walked here long ago

Sun beams cloak with fiery rays
The outline of the hills
Spreading over rocks and rattled snow
You walked here long ago

:is: WV 129: Hugar ft. Arnór Dan – Waves :is:

Lyrics

I have held the hands of loss
Felt them fade away
With wistful smiles we toss grey hours of betray
Lead the way
Lead the way

We raise our arms above and leap down cold rocks
How pure
The joyful sands embrace
The shore longs for us and cleans decay
Lead the way
Beneath the waves

Can I imitate the waves?
Can I recreate an anchor?
In the darkest depths of memory

Can I imitate the waves?
Can I recreate an anchor?
In the darkest depths of sea

Cross your arms across your chest
Deepest dark awaits
Breathe in final beams of dawn
Let them dress your heavy heart
Lead the way
Beneath the waves of us

Can I imitate the waves?
Can I recreate an anchor?
In the darkest depths of memory

Can I imitate the waves?
Can I recreate an anchor?
In the darkest depths of sea

I will imitate the waves
I will recreate an anchor
In the darkest depths of sea

I will imitate the waves
I will recreate a fall
Into the darkest depths of sea

:is: WV 130: Hjálmar ft. Mr. Silla – Er hann birtist :is:

I decided to leave my comfort zone for once (well, Trúbrot isnt that long ago ) and go with a very different approach, a cheerful, rather peculiar, slightly SOBResque, reggae-influenced song with retro vibes.

Hjálmar is the most popular Reggae band in Iceland (there aren't many though) and have already been in business for quite a long time, having released six albums and being involved in many collaborations (as every Icelandic artist does)
Contrary to expectations, Mr. Silla is the female act here, the singer of this song. She is actually a passionate ukulele player she also worked together with some Icelandic artists you know, including Low Roar. Death Stranding fans might be keen on knowing that she is Ryan's backing vocalist in the song "I'll keep coming".

Btw, the original version of Er hann birtist was recorded in 1968 by the band Hljómar who I once had included in a retro NF with the song "Þú og eg". After Hljomar splitted up in 1969 the female vocalist of Hljomar, Shady Owens, became the lead singer of... Trúbrot! Why am I telling you all this? I guess I love to point out how small and tightly connected the Icelandic music scene was and still is. xheat

Lyrics & Translation

Alein bíð ég við gluggann endalaust
Eftir að finna hann
Veit ég að gömlum vana
Að hann vanur er að ganga götuna
Vor og haust.
Alone, I wait by the window indefinitely
for finding him
I know his old habit
to go along the street
in spring and in autumn
Er hann birtist
Byrjar mitt hjarta að slá
Bíð ég aðeins
Til að fá hann að sjá
When he appears
My heart starts racing
I'm just waiting
To see him
Þó ég þekki hann ekki er ég svo
Ástfanginn hverju sinni
Myrkri í stofu minni
Ég læt matinn á borðið sér hvert kvöld
Fyrir tvö.
Although I do not know him, I am
in love anyway
darkness in my living room
every night I put food on the table
for two
Er hann birtist
Byrjar mitt hjarta að slá
Bíð ég aðeins
Til að fá hann að sjá
When he appears
My heart starts racing
I'm just waiting
To see him
Ein hvern tíma hann eflaust biður mín
Ég þykist vera hissa
Svo fer ég kanski að flissa
Þá við giftumst og við hann segi ég
Ég er þín.
One time he will no doubt ask me
I pretend to be surprised
Then maybe I'm giggling
Then we get married and I say to him
I'm yours.

Er hann birtist
Byrjar mitt hjarta að slá
Bíð ég aðeins
Til að fá hann að sjá
When he appears
My heart starts racing
I'm just waiting
To see him

This is lovely. Somehow it still has got a ShoeFlo feel to it. It's you but happy, maybe on your holidays with a cocktail that's got one of those little umbrellas xheart

Indeed I love cocktails very much, at least the fruity ones. The more fruity it gets, the more I like it. You can always make me happy with sex on the beach :sneaky: The place where I drink it usually serve it with those umbrellas you mentioned and they use macaroni as straws to avoid the use of plastic xheart Lovely idea.. but I dont know why I am telling you that

Anyway my cheerful holiday song flopped, people want me to send only melancholic and dreamy/atmospheric songs, sung by men with high voices. Let's see if I give you what I want in next edition. It will be a returning artist probably, but I dont quite know yet who it's gonna be xthink
