Dear Hungary, please let AWS be your guiding star into your marvelous direction of bringing new winds into Eurovision, together with Joci Pápai. xrose

I hope that we will send a modern, English language song next year. We will never be in the Top5 with a Hungarian song, the jury clearly hates those, and I think it's time for us to send another "Running" (2014).

Nope!

I think you should continue to be authentic and original, should I remind you that only ONE out of your five English language entries made it past the final top. 15 in the past eight years, wheres two out of three Hungarian language ones made it to the top.10? So with your logic, you shouldn't go with English at all! xshrug

Juries are EURO- haters, they always were, but it seems the public disagree with them. You can't base it all on the 2018 results, the entry was interesting but maybe a bit too extreme and in a genre that is too foreign for most Eurovision viewers, I mean even if televoters again liked you more than juries, it was "just" top. 15, which imo still is a respectable place for something like this in ESC. I think however that you would have faired better with "Meggyfa", both with juries and televoters.

That's because we either had terrible staging (2011, 2016) or our song just wasn't memorable enough (2012, 2015). We should just send someone like Viktor Király (obviously with a good song, his song this year in A Dal was weak), and see what happens.

So how come your more original Hungarian songs faired better then? I think you should continue trying out new stuff and be authentic, looking at the public support, it seems they appreciate this approach from you. However, sending hardcore rock might be a little bit too out there for many, so you shouldn't see these results as a let-down tbh.

AWS' result isn't a let-down, they were our only chance to qualify this year (I think "Meggyfa" would have flopped.), and I never expected a Top10 result for them.

Our biggest issue right now is that less and less famous singers try to compete in A Dal and our national lineup is getting weaker and weaker every year. We were really lucky in the last few years, and we need to change A Dal. The most important would be to remove the terrible Hungarian jury and have an international jury instead.

O wow, but what about yesyes?

About Meggyfa, yeah if the staging was still the same as in A Dal, plus apparently the jury has something against ultra-ethnic vibes for some reason? Nevermind the rap in Origo, I heard it was hated by juries because of being "ethnic". Yeah sure

You think it will do wonders for YOU now that it usually does for Scandinavians? Just a reminder that Switzerland and Malta used them too this year and it resulted to nothing xshrug

I really want Hungary to win! We have never had any winner from Eastern part of Central Europe so I think it's the right time!

Yeah, it really is time for a V4 (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary) or Romania win. An ESC in Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, or Bucharest would be great.

Re: HUNGARY 2019

By now it's hard to ignore the fact that we were in 8 finals in a row, and out of these 8 entries only 1 entry, that of András Kállay-Saunders in 2014 was voted well by the juries. Also since we have the full results, we can see how all of our entries in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 had lots and lots of individual last places among the various jury members.

I don't have a preferred genre for next year's entry, I will support whatever good comes up in the next A Dal line-up. I wouldn't have thought one year ago that I will support a metal entry to win, but AWS convinced me. I'd be glad though if one of our more known singers came with a great song. A Dal and Eurovision interest in Hungary needs a slight boost now.

I hope we continue doing our own thing, sending home-grown entries we in Hungary like without worrying about whether it's a right choice for the contest or not. It's something I'm really proud of, is the fact that apart from Freddie, all winners of A Dal (co-)wrote their own songs. :)

Fingers crossed for yesyes, and a good, modern song with accordion. We can achieve decent jury (& tv) points with them.

Stick to your guns Hungary. I saw that A Dal and Eurovision had lower viewing figures this year which is a shame... there's always an interesting mix in this selection and it feels way more authentic than some selections for sure!

Also in Hungarian. I don't want Adám to be victimized for not being able to English. in interviews that is

Re: HUNGARY 2019

Wait, wasn't Boggie the last Hungarian jurywank?
I was talking about the Finals, in the semi finals fortunately things are slightly better, otherwise we wouldnt have been able to qualify all these years.

Let's see since 2011:

2011 Kati Wolf
Semi final: 8th with televoters (73), 10th with juries (65)
Final: 17th with televoters (64), 21st with juries (60)

2012 Compact Disco
Semi final: 11th with televoters (39), 7th with juries (76)
Final: 22nd with televoters (20), 23rd with juries (30)

2013 ByeAlex - only those silly avg scores are available
Semi final: 8th with televoters, 11th with juries ?
Final: 8th with televoters, 21st with juries ?

2014 András Kállay-Saunders
Semi final: 2nd with televoters (125), 3rd with juries (122)
Final: 10th with televoters (98), 4th with juries (138)

2015 Boggie
Semi final: 11th with televoters (50), 6th with juries (70)
Final: 22nd with televoters (21), 17th with juries (29)

2016 Freddie
Semi final: 3rd with televoters (119), 8th with juries (78)
Final: 14th with televoters (56), 18th with juries (52)

2017 Joci Pápai
Semi final: 2nd with televoters (165), 7th with juries (66)
Final: 7th with televoters (152), 18th with juries (48)

2018 AWS
Semi final: 5th with televoters (88), 13th with juries (23)
Final: 15th with televoters (65), 22nd with juries (28)

On average, these entries
in the semi final finished on an average of 6th place with 94 points from the televoters and 8th with 71 points from the juries.
In the final 14th with 68 points from the televoters and 18th with 55 points from the juries.

Lol I thought she was 3rd with the juries in the semi

Well still technically the last time you guys had a jury friendlier entry (at all) was Boggie, and in both semi and final it seems.
