I hope that we will send a modern, English language song next year. We will never be in the Top5 with a Hungarian song, the jury clearly hates those, and I think it's time for us to send another "Running" (2014).
Nope!
I think you should continue to be authentic and original, should I remind you that only ONE out of your five English language entries made it past the final top. 15 in the past eight years, wheres two out of three Hungarian language ones made it to the top.10? So with your logic, you shouldn't go with English at all!
Juries are EURO- haters, they always were, but it seems the public disagree with them. You can't base it all on the 2018 results, the entry was interesting but maybe a bit too extreme and in a genre that is too foreign for most Eurovision viewers, I mean even if televoters again liked you more than juries, it was "just" top. 15, which imo still is a respectable place for something like this in ESC. I think however that you would have faired better with "Meggyfa", both with juries and televoters.
That's because we either had terrible staging (2011, 2016) or our song just wasn't memorable enough (2012, 2015). We should just send someone like Viktor Király (obviously with a good song, his song this year in A Dal was weak), and see what happens.
So how come your more original Hungarian songs faired better then? I think you should continue trying out new stuff and be authentic, looking at the public support, it seems they appreciate this approach from you. However, sending hardcore rock might be a little bit too out there for many, so you shouldn't see these results as a let-down tbh.
AWS' result isn't a let-down, they were our only chance to qualify this year (I think "Meggyfa" would have flopped.)
The most important would be to remove the terrible Hungarian jury and have an international jury instead.
I really want Hungary to win! We have never had any winner from Eastern part of Central Europe so I think it's the right time!
By now it's hard to ignore the fact that we were in 8 finals in a row, and out of these 8 entries only 1 entry, that of András Kállay-Saunders in 2014 was voted well by the juries. Also since we have the full results, we can see how all of our entries in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 had lots and lots of individual last places among the various jury members.
I don't have a preferred genre for next year's entry, I will support whatever good comes up in the next A Dal line-up. I wouldn't have thought one year ago that I will support a metal entry to win, but AWS convinced me. I'd be glad though if one of our more known singers came with a great song. A Dal and Eurovision interest in Hungary needs a slight boost now.
I hope we continue doing our own thing, sending home-grown entries we in Hungary like without worrying about whether it's a right choice for the contest or not. It's something I'm really proud of, is the fact that apart from Freddie, all winners of A Dal (co-)wrote their own songs.
Fingers crossed for yesyes, and a good, modern song with accordion. We can achieve decent jury (& tv) points with them.
I was talking about the Finals, in the semi finals fortunately things are slightly better, otherwise we wouldnt have been able to qualify all these years.Wait, wasn't Boggie the last Hungarian jurywank?
