The verdict of the bloggers:
Chris - It simply rocks. In a just world, that would be more successful than "Always on the Run." Let's hope Tynna recovers in time, and the problems with the chorus and staging can be resolved satisfactorily.
Giulia - I think it's right that Germany sends this kind of music. It's what young people in Germany are listening to right now. A mix of Nina Chuba and Ski Aggu. I think the song would go down well at a German festival, but it wouldn't be good enough to be played at prime time. Sure, Tynna's voice still needs to improve. But something can be gained from the song and Tynna's charisma. But I already know that there won't be a cool prsentation, because Germany doesn't even know what presentationmeans. All we'll have is a meaningless stage set.
Laureen - I like the entry, and it even made it onto two of my playlists: the one for the Eurovision Song Contest and the playlist for German-language music, which I affectionately dubbed "Görmany" (for those who are interested). The entry is modern, clever, and fun. I'm still worried about the live performances.
Peter - Rarely have I noticed such a stark discrepancy between the perception of a German song at home and abroad. While the title is often celebrated by fans in Europe, here it is very often met with a shrug of the shoulders or indifference. I really like "Baller" and I celebrate the song. Two things worry me: "Baller" is not unique in its year; there are many things that will be compared to it – from Belgium to Austria and Finland to Australia. And I fear Stefan Raab will make the production worse. The smashing of a cello, for example, I personally find "rubble," as my friend Daniel would say. Tasteless and inappropriate, I cannot understand what´s good about smashing a classical instrument.
Rick - This song simply blasts. And I'd say so even if the song weren't called "Baller." A fresh sound that perfectly reflects contemporary Germany and is incredibly catchy. I adore the electronic sound, and Abor's cello adds the necessary recognizability. Even though I'm just as uncertain about Basel as everyone else, I haven't been this "positively excited" to see a German entry on the Eurovision Song Contest stage in a long time.
