Btw. in a recent interview they got asked about the ESC and they said they could see them at the ESC in the future and they know that songs are only permitted if they are published after 01.09. (We got the moves ist published at 03.09.)

"Possible changes"? - Wow. I'm in shock.

It is just so frustrating that they seem to do everything wrong. I have always believed and said that trying to come up with a "calculation" of what might succeed in Eurovision is a terrible idea. What did we end up with? - A generic but well-produced and contemporary-sounding EDM pop track performed by someone who couldn't perform that song. The formula needed to be fixed. It was not authentic at all. Zero involvement of Germany despite being one of the largest and leading music markets on Earth.
A year afterwards we got an authentic and honest number but it was not competitive at all, tried to be political and sounded like a dated and horrible JESC entry accompanied by a trashy and low budget performance delivered by someone who was not able to hold any notes either.

Can't we get an authentic, well-produced and competitive entry again?

I still think Ben Dolic would have gone top 10, we'll never know, but i see why you wouldn't want them to send a song like that over and over.

I honestly don't care. I didn't even watch the national finals back in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and 2020 and 2021 were mediocre to utterly horrendous.

Even though I'm an avid Eurovision fan, I just realised that I feel pretty much indifferent to these news. I'll probably listen to the snippets from the entries but I don't expect any changes... we will probably get something similar to 2019 but time will tell....

I'm slightly surprised that BR came up with this posy and not NDR, though.

I think a public selection for Germany is actually bad news. The target audience of BR and NDR are people in their mid 50s and older, they won't pick a competitive song, they want inoffensive stuff like the S!sters or Helene Fischer.

I also don't have high hopes that the selection will be any good in general, I don't trust these juries.

I used to think the problem with the German NF was the format and even went on record on the main site saying so, but then 2019 happened, and that showed me I was wrong and that the problem was never the format but rather the German public's inscrutable taste, and honestly, I think Germany really desperately needs an internal selection to be creatively non-inert - just not the internal selections they've made.

exactly... hope the same won't happen for Romania since they actually had a possible top 10 finish in 2020, even in 2021 but the staging and the live performance let them down, though I do think that was more of a fault of the broadcaster rather than Global Records... if they return to that horrible national final they will withdraw in 2023 due to not qualifying again.

Also why did Malta decide to return to MESC?

Like some of these broadcasters really don't know how to think.
