Welcome to another FSC Spin-Off!
Welcome to this FSC October 2017 Spin-Off , which will feature many great songs from the period
2000 to 2015 A.D. Our host city is Shanghai - China one of the four directcontrolled municipalities
of China and the most populous city proper in the world with a population of more than 24 million
It's a global financial centre (banks etc) and transport hub, with the world's busiest container port.
Located in the Yangtze River Delta , it sits on the south edge of the estuary, of the Yangtze , in the
middle part of the East China coast. As a major administrative , shipping & trading city , Shanghai
grew in importance in the 19th century , due to trade & recognition of its favourable, port location
& economic potential . Shanghai's been described, as a "showcase" of China's booming economy.
Historically , two important events , helped promote Shanghai's development in the Ming dynasty.
A city wall , was built for the first time in 1554 to protect the town from raids by Japanese pirates.
It measured 10 metres (33 feet) , high & 5 kilometres (3 miles) in circumference. During the Wanli
reign (1573-1620) , Shanghai did receive a 'boost' from the erection of a City God Temple in 1602.
In the last two decades , Shanghai has been one of the fastest, developing cities in the world and
is one of the main industrial centers of China. It is a modern city with all amenities but also a city
of history . Shanghai has a rich collection of buildings & structures of various architectural styles,
incl. a large number of architecturally distinctive , and 'eccentric' buildings springing up in the city
Notable examples of contemporary architecture , include the Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand
Theatre in the People's Square precinct & Shanghai Oriental Art Center. The old city, however, still
retains some buildings of a traditional style , such as the Yuyuan Garden , an elaborate traditional
garden in the Jiangnan style . Shanghai is without doubt, a city of culture, both ancient & modern.
Our Host venue is the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai. Formerly known as the Shan
ghai World Expo Cultural Center, it is an indoor arena located on the former grounds of Expo 2010
in Pudong . It is owned & operated by the 'AEG-OPG' joint venture . The arena seats 18.000 people
& includes a smaller venue , The Mixing Room & Muse, which is a more intimate live-music venue
The arena has became the most popular arena in mainland China since it opened in 2010.It's one
of the most popular arenas for concert tours of the performers in Mandarin & Cantonese , also in
Korean & Japanese. Additionally it has attracted many international superstars (Taylor Swift, Met
allica, Katy Perry and The Rolling Stones to name a few) who have held successful concerts here.
