bosnia is 9th because they did pretty well between 2009 and 2012 and non-participations don't bring their average placement down. same reason turkey stayed high. i also don't think countries with five years or less of participation shouldn't be included because that's not a lot to work with.

Interesting video. :)

It is! Never thought that for example Romania would be among the best 10. Loved that Italy is second. They keep sending wonderful entries! :D

In fact, there are many results this year that is really weird both in the final and in the semi, no "röd tråd" as we say in Swedish, you can´t see any kind of patterns at all between the split results in the semis and the final.

I mean, I could probably somehow see/understand if Australia was like 20-15 with the televote, but last... LAST??

I miss Turkey...
I miss Greece sending songs I like
Ukraine's declined for me the two last years...

and with the declination of those countries, luckily Bulgaria and Belgium have stepped up their games the last years

We miss good old Eurovision days in Greece too!

In the past decade, from 2003, when I started to watch ESC, :gr: was my favorite country at the contest. I want these days back. :( You were always in top 10 then, and it was completely deserved. I don't like entries from 2010 untill now, only Yianna is exception, that song I adore. :) I am still sad she hasn't qualified, such a quality entry, but unluckily staging messed things up, and that semi was too strong. xcry

i won't begrudge sweden as #1 because only truly dislike two of their last ten entries and they were in years melfest was good and i just didn't like the winner. australia at #3 though? *hairflip*

i love how spain could not place lower than 26th by default since they are big 5 and they still placed only 21st. eurovision capital of incompetence. xheart

I really liked some Spanish entries, such as Edurne and Pastora. I'd put them top of the big 5 in this period and just based on those two efforts alone near the top overall.

i actually agree and think spain has no shortage of good SONGS. they are just so, soooo bad at staging and promoting, though, it's unbelievable. even pastora who was 10th felt like she could have done better with more effort.

I did a bit "what would have happened if..." game and instead of points I did the average scoring for sf1. This system with average scoring is good for eliminating songs that get a few high scores and plenty of bottom scores (the case of Serbia and Bosnia in 2016 - both countries made it into top 10 with televote, but mostly because both countries received high scores from 5-6 countries, but with many other countries they were 14th, 15th, 16th etc.), but it's good for countries that come 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th... with many countries (the case of Switzerland this year and San Marino in 2016 - San Marino would have been 10th with televote back in 2016 if this system was used. Bosnia would have been 11th (compared to 7th with the system used right now).

Also surprised about the 4th place, but actually also about the 9th place (Moldova 2017). But most of the placements, I do understand.
