Re: Canada 🍁 WV97

Thank you to all those who supported Logan this edition, I'm just happy to have it in the final so that's a total win for me

I'm trying to figure out my next entry and some beyond, so what I'd like to know is: what would you like to see/hear from Canada? Classic rock, 80s pop, more instrumentals, perhaps some folk? I'm dying to hear some great ideas

Re: Canada 🍁 WV97

Thank you so much for the ideas, I will keep them in mind for future entries.

As Canadian juror, I've taken you on a journey to experience music from all across the country. But the one place we have not yet explored is the North. For WV97, we will finally take that journey together to the far reaches and beyond the Northern Lights, with a song by an Inuit artist from Nunavut

Susan Aglukark - O Siem

Video

Lyrics
O Siem, we are all family
O Siem, we're all the same
O Siem, the fires of freedom
Dance in the burning flame

Siem o siyeya, all people rich and poor
Siem o siyeya, those who do and do not know
Siem o siyeya, take the hand of one close by
Siem o siyeya, of those who know because they try
And watch the walls come tumbling down

O Siem, we are all family
O Siem, we're all the same
O Siem, the fires of freedom
Dance in the burning flame

Siem o siyeya, all people of the world
Siem o siyeya, it's time to make the turn
Siem o siyeya, a chance to share your heart
Siem o siyeya, to make a brand new start
And watch the walls come tumbling down

O Siem, we are all family
O Siem, we're all the same
O Siem, the fires of freedom
Dance in the burning flame

Fires burn in silence
Hearts in anger bleed
Wheel of change is turning
For the ones who truly need
To see the walls come tumbling down

O Siem, we are all family
O Siem, we're all the same
O Siem, the fires of freedom
Dance in the burning flame

O Siem, we are all family
O Siem, we're all the same
O Siem, the fires of freedom
Dance in the burning flame

The Guess Who - These Eyes

Video

Lyrics
These eyes cry every night for you
These arms long to hold you again
The hurtin's on me, yeah
But I will never be free, no, my baby, no, no
You gave a promise to me, yeah
And you broke it, you broke it, oh, no

These eyes watched you bring my world to an end
This heart could not accept and pretend
The hurtin's on me, yeah
But I will never be free, no, no, no
You took the vow with me, yeah
And you spoke it, you spoke it, babe

These eyes are cryin'
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they're never gonna see another one like I had with you

These eyes are cryin'
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they're never gonna see another one like I had with you

These eyes are cryin'
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they're never gonna see another one like I had with you

These eyes cry every night for you
These arms, these arms long to hold you, hold you again, ahh

These eyes are cryin'
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they're never gonna see another one like I had with you

These eyes are cryin'
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they're never gonna see another one like I had with you

These eyes are cryin'
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they're never gonna see another one like I had with you

These eyes are cryin'
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they're never gonna see another one like I had with you
Baby, baby, baby, baby

Re: Canada 🍁 WV99: Sarah McLachlan - Possession

WORLDVISION 99 :ca::lond:

Sarah McLachlan - Possesion

Video

Lyrics
Listen as the wind blows from across the great divide
Voices trapped in yearning, memories trapped in time
The night is my companion, and solitude my guide
Would I spend forever here and not be satisfied?

And I would be the one to hold you down
Kiss you so hard, I'll take your breath away
And after, I'd wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear

Through this world I've stumbled
So many times betrayed
Trying to find an honest word to find
The truth enslaved
Oh, you speak to me in riddles
And you speak to me in rhymes
My body aches to breathe your breath
Your words keep me alive

And I would be the one to hold you down
Kiss you so hard, I'll take your breath away
And after, I'd wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear

Into this night I wander
It's morning that I dread
Another day of knowing of
The path I fear to tread
Oh, into the sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride
Cause nothing stands between us here
And I won't be denied

And I would be the one to hold you down
Kiss you so hard, I'll take your breath away
And after, I'd wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear

I'll hold you down
Kiss you so hard, I'll take your breath away
And after, I'd wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes...

Re: Canada 🍁 Searching for the perfect song for WV100

Time to search high and low, coast to coast for the entry that will represent Canada at the centennial edition of WorldVision! I've even dispatched Michael Woods, who won the bronze medal in the men's road race at the world road cycling championships in Austria to help

Re: Canada 🍁WV100 - Howard Shore: Concerning Hobbits

WV100 Memorial Post

Over 5 years, 80+ editions, three different countries. I've come a long way since June 2013.

My very first entry was "O-oo! by Jackie for Switzerland in WV15 Miami. I was 18th in my semifinal with 18 points. Today, as we celebrate WV100, I'm standing here with a lot more confidence in myself. Sure I've had ups as well as down, but I'm proud of the fact that I have one victory on my resume along with 1 second place, 3 thirds, a handful of top 10 finishes, 2 times as host (3 if you count the WV anniversary show), and 2 semifinal wins. I don't regret anything I've sent, though with some entries I sort of wish they could have done better placement-wise.

So that being said, anyone who has followed my entries since then (or whenever they got the chance to get to know me when they came into the game), I'd like to know some things from you guys:

1.:ch: Favorite entry from Switzerland (WV15-WV44)
2. :ca: Favorite entry from Canada (WV46-WV85, WV93-present)
3. :jp: Favorite entry from Japan (WV86-WV92)

4. What entries do you think should have done better, and why?
5. What would you like to see next from me?

I thank you all for being such great friends to me over these last 5 years and I hope it can continue as long as the game continues. I'm proud and honored to be part of the WorldVision community!

Re: Canada 🍁WV100 - Howard Shore: Concerning Hobbits

My all time Canada faves:

Loreena McKennitt - Dante's Prayer
Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
K.D. Lang - Constant Craving
Neil Young - Harvest Moon
Nelly Furtado - Turn Off The Light
The Guess Who - These Eyes

My favourite song you've sent probably has to be Dante's Prayer to be honest. A song i've loved for years even before joining WorldVision. Of the songs you introduced me to though, I think Harvest Moon might be my favourite. It kind of sends me into a trance. Such a beautiful song. A lot of my own personal music heroes like The War On Drugs' Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile cite Neil Young as a major influence on their own works. He's just one of those figures that truly is a legend.

Anyway, Harvest Moon and Turn Off The Light deserved the final (I believe they both got semi 12s from me), and K.D. Lang and Crash Test Dummies would have slayed the final if I could wave a magic wand. You've got those fabulous Loreena Mckennitt top 3 finishes though. I remember that Dante's Prayer edition very well as I was behind you in the results with Perfume Genius' Dark Parts.

Happy WorldVision 100 Stephxheart Just keep doing what you're doing now. Sending songs you love.

Re: Canada 🍁WV100 - Howard Shore: Concerning Hobbits

Thanks again for helping me reach the final, I needed that boost of confidence given the bad luck I've been having in WV and NSC lately!

Going back to my WV memorial post, I'd like to share with you my three personal picks for each of the three nations I've been juror of. Some of you may have other ideas, but there are reasons why I chose these particular songs.

:ch: "Children" by Robert Miles (WV17): It's a song I loved since high school, and upon learning he was Swiss I just had to send it. My third-ever entry, I was so close to the top 10 (I was 3 points out) but it is always a pleasure to send something I truly love. (A side note: I won WLSC 63 with this song)

:ca: "Together We Are One" by Serena Ryder (WV54): Yes, "Dante's Prayer" was my most successful Canadian entry, however this song is very personal to me as it was the theme song for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto - my city of Mississauga hosted a couple of events. Every time I hear it, it makes me feel proud to be Canadian. Though it finished in 12th place in the grand final (again missing the top 10 by a few points), it got me my first ever semifinal victory.

:jp: "Tsugaru Kaikyo Fuyugeshiki" by Sayuri Ishikawa (WV76): When I had the honor of switching to Japan for a few editions, I didn't realize that it would have been that tough since I had more flops than successes. But somehow, when I had the urge to send a song in the enka genre, I had no idea that people would really gravitate to Sayuri-san's "calling card" song. It was my only qualification during that time, so it will remain a special song for me.

Re: Canada 🍁WV101

I think coming back to Canada was the best decision I could ever make: of the 4 trips to the final since my return, I've had two top 5s and a top 10. The DNQs I have no regrets over as they're songs I like and I'm just glad people like them enough to give them points in the semis

As for this edition, I'm thrilled with my result: 4th in SF1 regular, 2nd in REJU, and 4th overall in the final! I have so many people to thank for this

Let's start with the semis...

:12::no::gr::sc::pt:
:10:::na:jp::is:::rw
:6::rs:
:2: Northern Territory

From the REJU voters that gave me that combined :10:
:12::lv::svea:
:8:::yohu:it:
:7::tr:

And now the final!

:12::no::ph::lv::svea::mn:
:10::jp:::na:pl:::brit
:8:::yohu:sobr::pt::sc:
:7::rs:
:5::tr::il::it::gr:
:4::is:
:2: Northern Territory
:1:::ista

For WV101, I'm going back to a song I shared in a past national final, something I like to call a "Kai Klassic" as it's kind of a style that Rainy would send. Here's to the next century of WV, and all your friendship!

The Poppy Family - Which Way You Goin', Billy?

Video

Lyrics
Which way you goin' Billy?
Can I go too?
Which way you goin' Billy?
Can I go with you?

I really love you, Billy
And all this time
I thought you loved me, Billy
And you were mine

I'm gonna miss you, Billy
And though I'm trying
I'm hurting so bad, Billy
I can't help crying

You are my whole, babe
My heart and my soul, babe
I'd have nothing to show, babe
If you should go away

You are my whole, babe
My heart and my soul, babe
I'd have nothing to show, babe
If you should go

Which way you going, Billy?
Or need I ask?
Cause you don't want me, Billy
You're free at last

I won't forget you, Billy
For all my life
I'll always love you, Billy
I'll stay your wife

You are my whole, babe
My heart and my soul, babe
I'd have nothing to show, babe
If you should go away

You are my whole, babe
My heart and my soul, babe
I'd have nothing to show, babe
If you should go

You are my whole, babe
My heart and my soul, babe
I'd have nothing to show, babe
If you should go

Re: Canada 🍁WV102 (Round 2, Song #10!)

Thank you again so much for your support to my little 1960s gem. I didn't expect to qualify, but to be 6 points out from qualification range makes me very happy.

Next edition is my 10th since coming back to Canada, so hopefully you guys will like what I've got planned next!

Re: Canada WV102 (Round 2, Song #10!)

My :lt: gave 12 for :ca: and your entry was only the one, which I love from the semifinal 1.

It's very rare thing, when somebody sent # 1 from my retrospective charts (this single spent 3 weeks on the top in August of 1970) in Worldvision.

Re: Canada 🍁WV102: Bryan Adams - Summer of '69

WORLDVISION 102 :ca::paci:

Bryan Adams - Summer of '69

Video

Lyrics
I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it 'til my fingers bled
Was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard.
Jimmy quit, Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far

Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you've got a job to do
Spent my evenings down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you, yeah

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh, and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh, yeah.
Back in the summer of '69, oh.

Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever, forever, no! yeah!

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
I think about you, wonder what went wrong

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that it'd last forever
Oh, and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh, yeah.
Back in the summer of '69, oh.
It was the summer of '69, oh, yeah.
Me and my baby in '69, oh.
It was the summer, the summer, the summer of '69, yeah.
