Which countries do you think make the best music?

overall - England, Russia or Sweden

by music styles
pop - England, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine
rock - England, Germany, Finland, Sweden
metal - Finland, US
folk - Turkey, Lebanon
electronic/dance - Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden
classical - Germany, Italy

Of course, I like the music of my country but it's lame to write it. :p

Quite simply United Kingdom and United States. There is no other country that matches our music. :D :D :D
We are actually classed as entertainment superpowers so I am not biased, it's just the British music charts are virtually all either British or American music. We dont have much European music at all.
-uk -us -uk -us -uk

Apart from us I also think Canada, Ireland and Australia. :D

In your head
pop - USA, UK, Finland, Canada, Sweden
rock - UK, Canada, USA, Finland, Japan
metal - Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Japan (i find both USA and UK to be quite mediocre in metal)
folk - Germany, Scandinavia,
electronic/dance - Netherlands, UK, Canada, perhaps Australia and USA
classical - USA, UK (most modern classical music companies are either USA, or UK based)

^ Was just about to ask the same question

Netherlands I mainly associate with dance- and trance-music.

In metal I find the Nordic countries (except for Denmark) ahead any other part of Europe. Sweden and Finland are the biggest metal-countries imo, and then we have Norway as a dark horse who are mostly recognized by metal-fans for their controversial and theatrical black-metal ( ) so i guess they should be mentioned too.

Well, I'm not sure your're right....

I could see many artists non-american/british, including 2 Romanian singers in your official chart.

@ Pablo

It's not arrogant, it's just true that UK and USA have the biggest music industries :). It doesn't mean other countries have crap music, just it's not as big ;).

@ Alex

I didnt say there was no European music, I said there isn't much ;). Yes there are some European singers but the vast majority of music in UK charts is from Anglophone countries :).

and....

the vast majority of music in Romania is from Romania
the vast majority of music in Spain is from Spain
----------------------------------------------
the vast majority of music in Japon is from Japon

yea, this is a normal thing, but even if a country has only 2-3-4 songs in a chart (which is not from its own country) is already a big performance and it shows a high level of quality. :) Seing Romanian songs in all radio charts across Europe for me is more than enough to be satisfied about our music industry.

You don't consider Iceland a Nordic country?
Denmark has Týr! Viking metal is cool :p

Of course Iceland is a nordic country. Just couldn't think of any Icelandic metal-bands. ;)

Well, in fact Týr is from Faroe Islands but since their lyrics are in Danish (like much other music from the Faroe Islands) I guess they can be considered Danish. Undoubtedly Volbeat is the only big band who have also gained international succes but apart from them there really isn't anything to write home about on our metal-scene. :p

Ahh there is no point replying to this coz people are telling me that I am arrogant for saying British and American music is the best and also saying that they have a bigger idea about the impact of Europe on the UK music scene than I do!

Yea I'm sorry... I stressed a bit

And I didn't mean I don't like any other music than UK/USA, I like several Spanish and Romanian songs. All I meant is that generally UK/USA music is the main music here.
Anyway, Alex you never said about arrogance so don't worry about it xkiss
