I think it could be to their detriment if it looks too obvious that the performance is taking place somewhere else. It could make it feel more like a music video being played than a live performance.

Australia has good production resources. I trust it will be on par with other performances.

I agree. At this point, there is no chance that she can make it there and gather the resources for the actual ESC stage in time. It would likely be a slipshod job done. The only (and the correct) way to do is to let Montaigne have another chance in the future. Maybe not 2022 as we don't know what the pandemic situation by then, but when Australia is less stricter with the restrictions, then give her the proper chance to be in the ESC stage physically.

What does this show? ESC press are mostly fans who only care about who they like. They are not going to give every artist the equal exposure.

I think it'd be nice if next year's host country invites Montaigne to perform Technicolor (and maybe a newer song too) as an interval act. I don't usually tend to back ideas like this, but it sucks that she's the only act out of 39 who couldn't get to perform on the Eurovision stage.
