Biggest surprise for me is how well Bulgaria is doing. I mean, it's a good song, but it's not a top-5 and probably not even a top-10. And it's not Sweden, Russia, Australia or a country which usually gets good results. They just came 4th last year with a killer song. Period.

I think Finland 2017 could do a Netherlands 2014
i would love if finland achieved that but i still can't see it advancing? ugh semi 1 wasting qualification spots on shit like australia and sweden </3

it's not just the song, even though it is obviously a top 5 kind of song. kristian also has huge televote appeal, especially for young viewers, even beyond his built-in fanbase which isn't even limited to bulgaria and neighbours. bulgaria absolutely made a big move here. they want to win.

- "Black bird" doesn't have 0,000001% of potential CATS had.

- I've never heard about Kristian before and I'm sure most Europeans either. Eurovision audience is not that young, not usually the typical viewers who would vote for Biebers, boy bands disastrous results so far prove it.

- Kristian is a great live singer and performer
- Supposedly, the official video will be artistic and really unique
- There will be a very good effort put into the staging
- This is a song that will work very well live
- Kristian is young, looks young and therefore his voice will have even more impact

i mean you are from spain lol. kristian was a finalist in the voice kids russia, and we all know the voice is a big deal there. his videos always have a lot of non-bulgarian comments.

also we don't get guys from kristian's demographic on eurovision to truly have a reference on the impact of young viewers, which i think can be sizable. i mean i GUESS nadav guedj was the same age in 2015 but homeboy looks older than me who is 8 years older, so

I HOPE Kristian is doing well because I really like this song, but I'm afraid that Beautiful Mess is one of the biggest fails this year.

The artists are always rewarded with points from their original countries or country they're well known in, so this might help Kristian I hope :-)

If anyone cares, I've been tallying up points from various YouTube tops. I'm at about 130 right now, and these are the current rankings:

I'm amazed at how close 14-28 are. I guess qualification is gonna be really unpredictable.

Didn't Spain win most YouTube tops last year?

Bulgaria is slowly climbing, it's 2nd right now on Oddschecker. The bookies probably think that Beautiful Mess is this year's Sound of Silence, it can win the jury vote.

Also the Russian diaspora vote.

i don't think the russian diaspora will necessarily vote for kristian just because he was born in russia and appeared in a russian tv show? i'm not sure of its impact for russians outside russia. but also his song is super competent so maybe he'll get those votes regardless.

They probably won't even know he took part in The Voice Kids Russia unless the commentators of the country they're in mention it in the broadcast xshrug
