I don't get why msot people, especially on YouTube, prefer 2017 to 2016. This year is sooo much inferior compared to the blast of bopness that we got last year. There were major disappointments this year, and I feel sad about it.

Now that we've got all the entries, I figured I'd update my list - and with a little more detail! To get a clearer idea of which year was better, I'll compare each country on a scale where:

  • 3 points means a massive difference, 2 points is still significant, 1 is slight, and 0 is either a tie or mood-dependent.
  • Scores are based on final studio versions only.
  • Disqualified songs (Romania 2016, possibly Russia 2017) and countries only in one year are still included, since we did get the songs.
Curious to see how it turns out!

Oh, that's an interesting idea! I'll update mine as well with that system, but I'll exclude countries that don't have a song for both years.

This year was much weaker than last year: even for countries whose two last efforts I liked or disliked, 2016 very often wins the battle. The lineup wasn't bad, but most of the songs were just okay, which isn't enough to stand the test of time. Fingers crossed for a stronger competition next year.
