This question is interesting, yet hard to answer.

I liked 2015 a lot, it was much better than 2013 & 2014.
But when I listened to the 2016 songs for the first time, I thought: Wow. So many good songs this year. Even many more good songs than last year, how is this possible?
And even if I was comparing each song of 2015 to 2016 (I'll do that later) there'd be more countries "winning" in 2016.

BUT - yes, here comes the but. I found myself listening to much less songs than I did last year in my freetime. Last year at the time I had my playlist of maybe 15 songs, my favourites, which I would play all day... during housework, while I was working (home office), when I was playing with my kids and I would sing along all the time, dancing...
This year, this hasn't happen to me quite often. Though I like most songs I'm catching myself a lot of skipping them because I'm just not in the mood. I don't have a feeling of wanting to sing and dance along. Very strange.

So all in all, I'd say 2016 is the weaker year.

Good songs? There is so much average dull stuff. You listen to that songs and you have forgotten them imediately. Even worth: half of all songs sound linke the have been performed by the same band. This is the worst ESC year for a long time.

I don't get the 2016 hate. While 2015 was a great year but it had some bad songs (:fi: :sm: :uk: are almost universally hated) while on 2016 has only One bad song imo: :sm:.
But as I Said I love both years.

This was really close, I’m surprised that 2016 (which I consider to be a “weak year”) has won over 2015 (which I consider to be a “weak year” too, but not as egregious). Guess it’s because many countries whose choices I liked last year sent songs which I really adore this year as well, and vice versa.

(doesn't look drastically in favour of last year, but I had quite a few songs I'd rate 10 or 12, while this year the highest would be 8's)

From what I can gather people had more songs they loved or adored last year. There was a good standard this year, but a lot of the songs were a similar genre. I enjoyed the vast majority of songs this year, but very few I really love.

I think 2015 was stronger for that reason. More variety and quirks.

19-19. once again I'm surprised because last year 2015 almost beat 2014 even though I think 2014 is a lot better and now it tied 2016 even though I think 2016 is a lot better too
