I don't think so. At that rate it would be simpler to stop to participate till 2012. Because it's very difficult to predict Who will be a loser and favourite. :geek:

Is victory the only goal on ESC (in your opinion) ?

Participation cost is near 400k euros (maximum, including the NF, promo of the NF, countdown shows etc. I assume). Hosting ESC = 10 mil. euros for the budget. Lol. Not participating in Eurovision is more expensive for our image than 400k euros. Hosting ESC is much bigger problem than finding money for participation. + we've already hosted JESC (which is not SO expensive) and they found money in the last moment, few weeks before the contest. And what would happen if they have to find 8 times bigger amount of money? I highly doubt that they can find money until Euro 2012.
+ the main goal is not just to win the whole thing. According to your logic everyone who lost last year should withdraw because they wasted money.

 I have a doubt that money will appear after Euro 2012. + it seems this financial crisis will never make off.
Victory is not only purpose of Eurovision, but I would like to see as every song is estimated justly. -- like it was last year at all

^ the money will appear just like the benefit from Euro 2012.
The budget will breathe much easily and commercial sponsors will start investing in music business more.

Chernobyl. Abandonded plant outside of Kyiv. Documentary.

They will shoot the music video on abandoned plants outside of Kyiv. In Prip'yat' (abandoned city-satellite of Chernobyl). In the movie studio as well.
There will be documental footage.

They wanted to shoot more footage in Prip'yat'. The director of the video went there on Friday and it appeared that their chosen location is still polluted. It's impossible to be there more than for 5 hours.
So they will go there and shoot there just for a lil' amount of time. "We decided to shoot a short video there. We'll say few words on camera" - according to Alyosha.
"I was born in Zaporozh'ye (Central Ukraine) in a 2 weeks after explosion. Consequences of the catastrophe influenced people of my generation. My song will be about this".

ps. On a side note: I was born 1 year before Chernobyl explosion though I also have problems with thyroid + my dad went to Kyiv after that. He helped their specialists. More than 2 million Ukrainians got health problems.

15 miles around the nuclear station - the zone which was heavily polluted.
5 miles around the nuclear station - the dead zone.

Yesterday they shot the video outside of Kyiv on abandoned plants. Here are the photos:

Documental footage of plants, people destroying forests, dying animals will be featured as well. This is what happening, not in the movies but here in the real life.
Something tells me that it will be hard to watch and it's definitely not something funny or something that people used to expect from us all these years. Finally :)

Obviously even just being there is very dangerous.
It's ok to visit Prip'yat' & Chernobyl now. It's even opened for tourists (100$ for excursion. People who are younger than 18 aren't allowed). Though I'd recommend don't touch anything and especially do not drink or eat something. Also you should avoid certain polluted zones, esp in the dead zone.[/center:1awwf6k5]

They are gonna have a guide in Prip'yat'. Someone who knows all polluted & safe areas there. The video will be premiered on the next week I assume.

Life is not only a big party, it's about cleaning up after yourself too and becoming less selfish... I think that the video will be depressing and a lil' bit shocking, totally different from other ESC entries.

Wow, very nice idea to make a clip in Chernobyl  It contains a good message in it. BTW it is very sad to see this abandoned city in some hunderds km north from Kyiv :( RIP to all the victims of this tragedy!

Yesterday was the Earth Day so Alyosha and people from her label and other organizations planted more than 100 trees on the territory of the National Institute of Cancer (children's subdivision):

I think the topic is too heavy for Eurovision which people watch mostly for fun and entertainment.

Eurovision is watched by different people and we aren't supposed to please majority (even if it wants to have fun).
But Eurovision is not only for fun just like music in general.

I don't think it's too heavy. The song has a message, which I like.

The video looks to be haunting, not depressing. There's a fine line, but I think this entry is treading the correct side of that line.

I agree with you both sorta. I think the message is a bit heavy to maybe do a top 10 placement, but it can manage to make it through to the final maybe, cause it is different and meaningfull! :)

What message? To protect the enviroment? In fact, if there was no Eurovision contest at all, the Earth would have gained more from unused artificial electricity, air flights and other transports, at least. The best message can be and has been delivered with the Earth day activities - acoustic perfomances, planting trees, making speeches and bringing awareness on protecting the Earth. People, who are really concerned about the enviroment, take part in these sort of activities, not watch Eurovision. Eurovision has a different audience who wants to relax and have fun. You or Alex, for example, make the tinest proprotion ofthis audience who will be thinking about the enviroment when watching Eurovision.
Actually, the whole thing about protecting the enviroment I find cynical. People destroy, then cry about it by destroying even more.

Guys, this is more than just a message to be eco-friendly or something in that order. Chernobyl disaster was (I believe still is) the cause of many victims (you only have to google to see those heartbreaking pictures ... ) and if Alyosha wants to dedicate her song to this particular indicent I applaud her for doing so.
