The song was actually not bad, I quite enjoyed. Unfortunately Svetlana comes across cold and disconnected with the audience and the overall choreography was just a big :?:

Not the most memorable song but overall it can be found somewhere in the middle of my list for 2009.

I liked this entry better than "Shady Lady" actually. I think it deserved a top 10 result, but not much more than that.

I started appreciating it in June probably. So lovet he melody and the bits that sound a bit Spanish. Svetlana has presence but I didn't like the visual performance on stage. It had too many things going around. You should give her a round of applause for being so creative, though.

hmmm, I like it a lil' bit less than 6 months ago.
This is the most undone Ukrainian entry... I mean they wanted to do SO many things but in the end they hold negotiations with ESC technicians and they were refused
The official reason for refusal was a safety reason. I agree. It was very risky. Well, Bilan flied from under the roof... but on the other hand it was Sveta, her team and this huge decoration that shoots rockets, steam and there's electricity connected blah blah blah. *sigh*

I still don't get why did they need to change dancers right on the last dress rehearsal :| One backing vocalist was too loud.
I adore choreography but I'm not a fond of costumes.

On the other hand I adore lights.
Overall, our team paid too much attention to decorations and single elements rather than thinking how to combine everything together.

Be My Valentine finished at #28 in the year-end stats of the National Airplay chart
Svetlana's "By My Side" with DJ Lutique scored #40 position.

the only official chart in Ukraine, btw.

Alexander Rybak finished at #19.
Aysel & Arash finished at #22.
Anastasiya Pryhod'ko finished lower - she didn't even enter the top-40.

Ani Lorak topped the chart with "Solntse", also she finished at #10 (A dal'she) and #31 (with her latest single Uvlecheniye).

A DAL'SHE! It's crazy Loboda's and Prihod'ko's songs are lower when they are way better than Rybak and Aysel & Arash. :roll:

tbh BMV and Mamo aren't really radio friendly songs when Aysel & Arash sound like typical commercial music for the radio.
And Rybak won ESC.

+ Rybak and Aysel & Arash promoted their songs after Eurovision so obviously they were more popular.
Loboda & Pryhod'ko started their promo campaign here way before Eurovision. So ESC-factor didn't work for them after ESC (where they finished outside of top-10).

Well, it's 11th and 12th, not last in the semi. Of course, these songs are easier to consume, though not better material for me.

^ top-10 is a psychological border... top-10 entries would be considered better than top-20. 11th or 12th - it's still in the top-20.

on the other hand Verka didn't even finish in the top-40 in 2007
because there was no promotion on the radio (Airplay is just a radio chart).
it was a massive I-net hit after all, with millions views and downloads.

Verka should've won! :shock: Plus, her song's totally made for the radio if you ask me. You're of course right, though people should think more and not let such boundaries affect their minds...
