Some nice surprises here. Especially from my own Pot I got more support than I expected before. I thought Random Haiku Generator is a little too poppy for most of them. For example, Germany and Svealand gave me more than I expected to get from them. I knew Ben would like it though. But not THAT much.
This is so encouraging, I will keep sending diverse styles xheat I am on a good run and I am eager to get a tad more experimental

My 5th Top 10 result within the last 6 editions. Three of them were Top 3 results. This is for sure satisyfing but now and then I'm longing for another win. Then again I believe I don't have many "winner arrows" inside my quiver anymore. Moreover, as I said I will go more experimental now and then. I will take risks and accept failures if necessary

My next song could be considered as a step "back to the roots". It's a quiet, atmospheric, dark and melancholic ballad of a metal band. A little similar to my WV 66 entry (Midaftann by Sólstafir) but maybe a bit simpler

My WV 80 song is gonna be a quirky, hyper and bizarre piece of... something. You won't be able to believe that it's my entry.

Lyrics

Hafið ris a ny

Fljótið djúpa sem í dalnun dunar
Ótal eru fjallbunur

The sea is rising again
The clouds are coming closer
I'm looking ahead
I see nothing but you

The deep river thunders in the valley
countless (people) are *something with mountain*
beautiful voices

After numerous different pop and rock songs Í Gljúfradal is one step back to my "Pot F roots". This song maybe needs some more listenings to unfold its beauty... But I hope at the end you enjoy this atmospheric and dark ballad. :)

By the way, nobody probably noticed that over two months ago I nearly revealed my next three entries

Myself in post #630 said:

Re: Áfram Ísland! | WV 79: Kontinuum - Í Gljúfradal

Sometimes I think it's a shame that in WV statistics only the Regular results matter (well since I am in charge of one WV statistics I have the power to change this tradition). Now is one of these moments.
I finished in the bottom 5 of Semi Final 3 so this is officially my worst result in 41 editions.
...but my REJU result is worth a mention. The 4th place in REJU ranking is beyond all expectations and it's crazy that - despite of Luis taking a break, Ben and Nicholas not voting as REJU - I came incredibly close to qualify. Not sure if those people I named would have made me qualify as they also appreciated or would appreciate Daniel's song.
So, only 2 points were missing... what an Irony I lost to my good friend Daniel but somehow I feared before that this would happen. As I wrote in a different thread we should never get drawn into the same Semi Final cause both of us often rely on REJU voting and both of us get massive support there.
Am I mad now? Nah, of course I'm not. For me :sc: was the best song in this edition so it's certainly acceptable losing this "battle".
What annoys me maybe is the fact :sc: came actually pretty close to qualify in Regular Voting so in this case I would have qualified for sure. After all, I was quite unlucky in this edition. But I was lucky before often enough so this is fine.

Next edition I will come up with a surprising choice. It's an uptempo quirky electronica song.. a little bit retro-sounding (maybe even Kraftwerk-ish) and definitely entertaining. Won't probably work out in WorldVision but I love to give it a try.
I also produced a fancy video for it (it has been a while I did it the last time) and it was a big fun doing it. Maybe some people will appreciate :)

In WV 81, a band I sent once before will finally return. It's a band that is very very dear to me and there will be a National Final with 6-8 songs of them xheya They have some great new material so it won't even easy to decide for the NF songs xheat

As things stand, I will take a break in WV 82 due to holidays

WV 80: Apparat Organ Quartet - Konami

Apparat_Organ_Quartet_%28album%29.gif

Lyrics

oh well. if I knew the language at least. but sometimes it says "konami"

Here I come with something different than usual... "Konami" is a quirky, uptemo, retro electro song with robot voices and endless synth effects. Usually songs like this put me off but this is so damn catchy and well produced.. love the chord progression, the melody in the chorus and also in the verses.

Apparat Organ Quartet sometimes describe their music as „Machine Rock and Roll“, and indeed the band’s sound veers between pulsing floor-fillers and headbanging anthems, served with a mixture of Kraftwerk-inspired electronics, Daft Punk-like Robot voices and hard-rock beats. Every note in Apparat Organ Quartet is hand-played, with is not a sequencer or computer in sight. In concert and on record, the band plays keyboards from their extensive collection of Jurassic analog machinery, including Russian synths and customized home organs, ARP’s, Farfisas, malfunctioning Hammonds, vocoders and various circuit-bent Casios and Portasounds.

"Apparat Organ Quartet has grown into a phenomenal force, playing soul-stirringly portentous mechanical music, equal parts progressive rock and horror film soundtrack, reminiscent of older acts like Kraftwerk and Goblin… as innovative and meticulous as Sigur Rós but who sound nothing like it."

Apparat Organ Quartet was founded in 1999 by the mastermind composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. The song "Konami" was featured in their 2010 album "Pólýfónía".

About the band members:

Arnar Geir Ómarsson, a graphic designer

Hörður Bragason, a former church organist

Músikvatur (Sighvatur Ómar Kristinsson), has collaborated with múm and has released several solo singles.

Úlfur Eldjárn,has composed a lot of music for theatre and TV series.

and most prominently Jóhann Jóhannsson, successful film composer in Hollywood and Golden Globe winner who however left the band in 2012 cause he had to dedicate himself to solo projects.

About the music video. My first thought when I heard the song was that it needs some scenes from retro video games of the late 1980s or early 1990s, preferably peculiar and dynamic Jump 'n' Run games such as Super Mario or Donkey Kong. Games that makes us feel nostalgic only when we think of them.
However, I desperately looked for such games created by Konami to fit the title. That was the difficulty cause from Konami I only know Pro Evolution Soccer but this wouldnt work well with this song. All of a sudden I remembered an very old Simpsons game a childhood friend of mine used to play. I only had vague memories on it cause I was like... 5 years old? and the game was already pretty old in that time. My mind could somehow connect it to Konami so I made researches for finding scenes of the gameplay. The story and the gameplay was exactly as hilarious and funny as I remembered it to be and I found videos of 30 minutes length or so, so I could transfer the story to my 5 minutes song. Some scenes are really crazy if divorced from their context and I loved to play with the scenes, cutting them, speed them up or down or playing them backwards.
I love how the final opponent of Homer is cherished C Montgomery Burns. Now I'll always be able to say I sent him before Kai did and I guess this hurts him a lot. One of his icons.
Actually I think this video is one of my better works. Even though maybe my duck video for WV 67 might be more touching and emotional. :)

Of course, I don't have any expectations regarding the results. 10 final places for 25 contenders... you can guess how likely I will go through with a song that puts off the most people. Actually I think some guys here will love this one for the same reason others might hate it (then again I didnt get meh's xthink) so I guess my results might be rather polarizing, getting mainly high points and 0 points... I am curios anyway! I love to share this one with you and present you a different side of me xheya

Re: Áfram Ísland! | WV 80: Apparat Organ Quartet (starring Jóhann Jóhannsson) - Konami

The video you made is a work of genius. Such a brilliant idea and so very charming. The Simpsons arcade game is widely regarded as the best Simpsons video game ever. Sadly I never got a chance to play it, but I did used to love The Simpsons Road Rage game.

Side scrolling beat em ups were the best. I played so many on my Sega Megadrive console, my favourite being Streets of Rage. Golden Axe was another classic, in fact, I went back to that one a few years ago when it was released on Xbox 360.

Anyway, fantabulous entry. I love it. It's a big risk to send something like this and I hope it pays off for you. It's perhaps something different to what you usually send but still I think you're the only person I can imagine sending something like this. It still very much has your stamp. The music gets so glorious towards the end.

Re: Áfram Ísland! | WV 81: Low Roar NF Coming soon

R. I. P. Konami
I will go to holidays tomorrow and it's late atm, so I try to keep it as briefly as possible. Of course I am sad about my Konami flop but lets be honest.. we all knew this would happen. I am overwhelmed by the support of Calvin, Eulaliya, James, Daniel and probably also Kai (he didnt post his NQ results but it should be 10 points) who gave me 10/12 points xfaint xfaint So much love for this little bizarre quirky song. Well, I knew I could count on you guys. Also impressing I got some love from other potmates (Anna) although my song is far away from the "listening habits" of Pot 9 people... great you gave it a fair chance and you found something enjoyable in it xup In a nutshell, as I expected my song rather polarized. Half of the people probably kicked it out after first listening. Well nevermind. The last time I missed the final in two consecutive editions was between WV 39-41, when I missed three in a row. These were my first three editions ever. So I am reaching one of my lowest points atm but surprisingly it doesnt bother me xthink

--------

NATIONAL FINAL:
LOW fucking ROAR are finally back xheat

768x432_ziischtigsmusik_lowroar.jpeg

There is probably no band (apart of Sigur Rós) that represents the distinctive "whiteshoes sound" better than Low Roar does. This is one of my absolutely favorite bands and while I am writing I am still clueless about what songs I even chose for this NF.. I am not organized at all this time but they have such a density of good songs that I am not worried of making wrong decisions. Low Roar are the gods of Dream Pop. So, for the people who dont know them.. they are doing very dreamy, calming, atmosphericl, airy, often melancholic pop music. All these marvellous melodies are combined with the soft, high and heart-warming voice of front singer Ryan Karazija. If you can identify with such kind of music PLEASE VOTE.. I sent them already in WV 53 with their biggest hit "Friends Make Garbage" and got a respectable 8th place. Hope I can repeat this success

These are the songs (dont know how to sort them, so I made it alphabetically). 8 in total. Sorry for treating you with so many songs but you have no idea how difficult it is to decide for songs of a band who is so consistent... I should have done two semi finals with 10 songs each and then a grand final tbh.
Anyway, Some people, if they've got a good memory, will recognize two songs I guess. Daniel probably knows them all.

1. Breathe In (from the album "0")

2. Dreamer (from the album "0")

3. Give up (from the album "Low Roar")

4. Gosia (album: "Once in a long, long while...")

5. Help me (album: "Low roar")

6. Patience (album: "Low Roar")

7. St. Eriksplan (Album: "Once in a long, long while...)

8. Waiting (10 Years) (Album: "Once in a long, long while...)

Well, as tempting as it was to not vote, and as a result enjoy the NF being cancelled, I decided I would give you a few days of my time to listen to the songs and send you my points + thoughts. What a wonderful and varied selection of songs. No two the same. Each one is so unique and a one of a kind. I really hope my 12 wins because it makes me emotion. Very best of luck to you Floxheart These gems except the one I shaded in the PM deserve our ears and attention.

I don't know who I like more, Low Roar or Sigur Ros. Either way they are both legends of Iceland.

WV 81: Low Roar - Help Me

low%2Broar%2B1.jpg

Lyrics

We built a house
on sacred ground
What happened out there
now happens in here
Cold sweats and couches
this was the worst of my fears

Help me out,
help me out

Bones made of glass,
I'm starving
for someone to fill
my blood, my skin

Help me out,
help me out
Help me out,
help me out

What's left to talk about?
What's left to talk about?

NF Resaltz
K8yPpMP.png

I'd have prefered Patience or my current fav Gosia to win this NF, but Help me is amazing anyway xheat it's so incredibly soothing and dreamy but then again you can say about almost every Low Roar song

This is a live performance of this song from 2011 (sooo long ago). In some parts Ryan reminds me a lot of Jonsi here. Obviously voicewisely, but even visually. For example his face expression in some passages

Sadly, I believe this might be the last time I can send Low Roar. Ryan recently moved to Warsaw... He isn't Icelandic himself and his Icelandic band members Leifur and Logi stayed in Iceland I think and were replaced by non-icelandic guys. Well, I can still claim that Low Roar was founded in Iceland and all his albums so far were produced in Iceland anyway. xthink Nevermind. For now I am enjoying this beautiful piece of art I've sent to this edition xbow

Re: Áfram Ísland! | WV 81: Low Roar - Help Me

A bit of a surprising winner but amazing choicexheart I'm sad "Give Up" didn't win. Will I ever get to hear this heartbreakingly beautiful song at WorldVision? :( Me and Nikos both gave it 12 here at leastxheat Fly taste:cool:

But anyway, please be this the song that sees lil Iceland back in the final againxcrossed I've really been enjoying Low Roar this week. I've got the lastfm stats to prove it.

Re: Áfram Ísland! | WV 81: Low Roar - Help Me

:is: :is: :is: Low Roar - Help me - 17th, 135 points :is: :is: :is:

Special thanks to this bunch of people:

:12: :us: :sc: :fr: xheart

:3: :dk: :ca: :nl: :jp: :uk: :ma:
:2: :br: :ie: :au: :en: :fi:
:1:::sg

The result is okay I guess but I think making a 8-song-National-Final with similar songs was a bad decision cause it puts people off or overchallenges them.. if it were 8 very different artists, yes, then it could have worked.. but I choose to send Low Roar in beforehand. Low Roar has a pretty high density of good songs so I just couldnt restrict the selection and I felt forced to make a 8-songs-NF... so I got five voters and I am pretty grateful but due to the low number of voters the NF result wasn't very meaningful. I guess other songs (in particular "Patience") would have done better than "Help me". But we will never know. At least I managed to return to the final after two flops.

For now, I say farewell and take a holiday break!

See you again in WV 83 :)

WV 83: Kjartan Sveinsson - Der Klang der Offenbarung des Göttlichen - Teil 1 (The Sound of Revelation of Divinity - Part 1)

Kjartan.jpg

Kjartan Sveinsson is a composer, musician and performer. He was member of Sigur Rós until 2012 where he was responsible for the band’s frequent arrangements for strings, brass, choir and orchestra. He left the band in 2012 to focus on solo projects and to try something new. His first solo project, a four act opera, is called ‘Der Klang der Offenbarung des Göttlichen’- The english title is ‘The Explosive Sonics of Divinity’ but the literal translation would be "The Sound of Revelation of Divinity"
Sveinsson composed the score for his and Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson’s opera inspired by Nobel Laureate Halldór Laxness’ novel ‘World Light’.

Der Klang der Offenbarung des Göttlichen premiered at Berlin’s Volksbühne theatre in February 2014 where Sveinsson was joined by The German Film Orchestra Babelsberg and the Filmchor Berlin for the 50-minute show.

The live performance sees each of the four movements set to a different theatrical tableau; with scenery changes and slight weather events sweeping in and out of the set, all of which occurs without a single actor gracing the stage. Kjartansson says that “Der Klang der Offenbarung des Göttlichen’ is a banally romantic opera inspired by Halldór Laxness’s cunning texts about the longing for beauty”.

"Teil 1" (Part 1) is the only instrumental part of this four movements (the others are choral and also endlessly beautiful, even though in some parts they sounds like church songs). It provides a familiar sense of orchestral uplift in the face of deep sadness.
This type of droning exploration of a simple melody is highly reminiscent of a lot of Sigur Rós’ early work, minus the distinctive falsetto vocals of Jonsí. Its extreme simplicity only serves to enhance its power. It’s not exactly easy or pleasant to listen to, but it is compelling, at least for the patient listener.

Have fun! xcheer

Re: Áfram Ísland! | WV 83: Kjartan Sveinsson - Der Klang der Offenbarung des Göttlichen (Teil 1)

I'm sorry to see this didn't pass for you Flo:( It was such a bold choice and made for a magnificent comeback. I don't quite know why but for some reason I had a bad premonition that it could miss, perhaps partly because of it being such a difficult and unwelcoming piece, even if your entries are known to be challenging and you're often richly rewarded for it. I'm sad though to see such a special and singular piece not advance. It overwhelmed me when I heard it for the first time, and i've been back for more listens since then. Each time i'm still stunned. It gives me goosebumps... then my ears are assaulted during the last minute, but I welcome that assaultxheart It's just such an awe-inspiring piece of neo-classical music. Thank you for sharing it.

WV 84: Lockerbie - Heim (Home)

Lyrics

I didnt find the lyrics on the internet xd

But the main part is like this:

Aaaah aaah aaaah ah ah ah aaaaaah

Characterized by themes drawn from the Icelandic post-rock movement, Lockerbie is a bit independent act that mixes the usual pop/rock and powerful but ambient post-rock together in an interesting way. Lockerbie is known for big, melodic and epic songs with interesting, poetic, and yet comfortable lyrics in icelandic that matches perfectly with the beautiful melodic piano sound that the band is also known for.

In the wake of Sigur Ros, Lockerbie are a post-rock band characterized by icelandic lyrics, but even though Doddi, the singer of the group, admits to be inspired by Jonsi, the band aims to get something different from the most famous icelandic post-rock band of all times. It’s like Lockerbie represent just the positive side of post-rock, the dreamy and sweeter one; in fact, they are open to pop sounds and almost fairy atmospheres.

-------------------------

I love contrasts! So after that heavy, celestial, and threatening classical piece by Kjartan, I decided to try my luck with an catchy, uplifting and energetic pop-rock song by a young and talented band. Lockerbie is pretty overshadowed by some other icelandic bands but actually they are really good in creating catchy tunes and mix up lovable sounds and instruments. The singers voice is not for everyone but I am cool with it. I am satisfied with the reception of this song during LL... Many seem to enjoy it. Considering the strong competition in this semi I dont expect to advance, though. I hope I will end up with a bearable result anyway. Sometimes some nice words are a more beautiful feedback than points in an online contest

Thanks everybody for your amazing support for Lockerbie! xcheer
My REJU result blows me away... 4th place with 74 points xfaint ... what a great affirmation! I am happy you appreciate this song even though it's different to my previous songs... it's very catchy, accessible and uplifting.. I showed you a different side of my taste ;) Maybe there are 2-3 people who didn't vote in REJU and whose votings would have given me even a better result, but then again there was that one mighty country/region in REJU voting, that got plenty of 12s (as a co-host I have insight into the results) and consequently deserves the REJU spot more than me. So I guess I never had a chance :D

For WV 85 I will send an returning artist.. it's a singer whose band I sent already a long time ago. This time however, I'll send him/her alone :)
