Thanks Valvin, Fierro and kopachka for your votings xheat

At the moment the fight for the 1st place...emm... doesnt look very exciting. Like.. not at all. xshifty But I am sure some more voters can make a difference. xacademic
I've already been an annoying prick with my 50+ mentions in a post above so no more mentionings for now. Maybe some people will receive some friendly personal messages soon, though. When it comes to promote my National Finals I often change into Jehovah's witnesses mode, so brace yourselves.

I know the Icelandic people have adopted you as their own, but I just wanted to say how you get all the best celebrities in your home country. Das ist einfach wunderbar! Ja. Es ist Ryan Gosling.

The story behind this prank is hilarious. Unbelieve it actually worked that easy and nobody was able to blow the cover... Nowadays our German public TV channels ARD and ZDF are just embarassing in everything they do

btw, thanks Rainy from the Woods, Mr. Tambourine Man and Shmelsasha ( xfaint I love to get votings from other people than the usual ones  ) for your precious votings. The ranking is a lil' more tight now (it was a one-horse-race before but now it looks like there could still happen some upheaval)

Re: Áfram Ísland! | WV 76 - National Final: KALEO

Danke schön Leo/Salmon for yor voting and I can tell you were the last voter of this NF. Feel honoured. Your voting changed the result.... not at all ... but nevertheless your voting was very insightful and I was happy about receiving it :D

In total I received 18 votings which I think is a personal record for me. I kinda hoped for 20 since I mentioned basically the whole WV community but 18 is a pretty amazing number anyway and even two more voters wouldnt have changed the result

Result looks like this:
1. 88
2. 65
3. 62
4. 55

The winner took the lead rather early and then it was never in danger of losing it. It was a comfortable and easy win at the end. Not the most exciting NF I did so far but at least I could share 4 songs with you guys xheart

I will send the winner now xqueenbitch

WV 76: Kaleo - Way Down We Go

StibPN8j2I0486kN2bni2zL8_S07neEJvQrwlBKoBGXt1n4rGl UFBf0XroCOSCGo8hUqi1oLwg=w300

Lyrics

Oh Father tell me, do we get what we deserve?
Oh we get what we deserve

And way down we go-o-o-o-o
Way down we go-o-o-o-o
Say way down we go
Way down we go

Oh you let your feet run wild
Time has come as we all oh, go down
Yeah but for the fall oh, my
Do you dare to look him right in the eyes?

Cause they will run you down, down til the dark
Yes and they will run you down, down til you fall
And they will run you down, down til you go
Yeah so you can't crawl no more

And way down we go-o-o-o-o
Way down we go
Say way down we go
Cause they will run you down, down til you fall
Way down we go

Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uh uhhhh uh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh uhh
Uh uhhhh

Oh bab-bab-yeah
Wow baby-a-aha
Baby ooo
And way down we go-o-o-o-o
Way down we go
Say way down we go oohhh
Way down we go

--------------------

At the end it was an easy win for Way Down We Go in this National Final. Can't say I am surprised. The more people from the lower pots would vote, the better were the chances for this song.. and I received many votings of these people! :p It is wonderful to receive votings of those people who usuaully dont care a lot about the stuff I sent. If mainly people from Pot 7-9 voted I think it would have been an open race but nevertheless WDWG might have won. Not sure about that though.
It's certainly a "mainstream" choice for my standards but thats actually not my fault. I've known and appreciated this song starting from day one and Kaleo was pretty unknown back then. I didn't expect this song to get 75 million spotify listenings, 26 million youtube views and multiple appearances in US series and movie trailers. Let alone having success in US and German charts. By these justifications you notice I actually don't like sending something "famous" or semi-famous.. I usually try to stick to my alternative stuff xheart
Nevermind... WDWG is one of the coolest songs I know. it's so well produced, catchy and Jökull's voice is incredibly powerful and sexy (no homo). It's truly genuine blues-rock music with those wonderful guitar chords. I've listened to this song like crazy the last couple of months and even year and I am proud to represnt Iceland with this stunning song. Btw, I can promise you I will send another song of this NF anytime soon... there is another song in this selection that means a lot to me. For now I just hope Way Down We Go will go way up

This is the result of NF:

Re: Áfram Ísland! | WV 76: Kaleo - Way Down We Go

Recently I saw my scorewhore of an entry being 4th in the France Itunes charts and I was like "wooo HYPE" but then I realized there are actually no French users in Worldvision community and it doesnt help. Sad story. Way down my hopes go.

My next three entries are planned already but I'm struggling to find the right order. Maybe I need a Random Order Generator xthink Anyway, I hope I can polish up my humble history of WV and you willGLJUFRADAL oh sorry my cat stepped on the keyboard and created this nonsense word. Please don't feel distracted.. where did we leave off? Ah right, I was about giving you information about my next three artists

- an underrated post-black metal band who can also produce wonderful ballads

- an even more underrated indie-rock band who created one of my favorite albums in last year but still are pretty unknown with around 1.700 facebook likes

- a collaboration of three massively talented Icelandic artists: One of them is a former WV participant, the another one appeared in two of my National Finals. The third one is notorious for his electronic-experimental-pop productions. The result of their collaboration are beuatiful yet modern melancholic pop-songs with experimental vibes.

Brace yourselves ladies and gentlemen, you can be sure I will never run out of entries xqueenbitch

Gosh, I told you the idea was to send the scorewhorish commercial stuff whilst I was on my break, YOU FOOL.

... i'm sorry. My emotions overtook me there. I shouldn't have spoken to you like that... It's just... your next three entries seem so promising. Can't you send Bjork or something whilst i'm on my break that starts sometime before 2019? Save Silvia Night though please for when I return.

WV 77: Ceasetone - Humble History Song

IMG_3709.JPG

Lyrics

I've done my share of falling, had my feeling for the ground
And when the earth keeps calling it's a stomach turning sound
And though my mistakes are on the right side of the wrong
I feel like someone's howling out my humble history song

I walk my own way through the valley of the wild
I hope that I'm okay, won't you tell me I'm alright
I need a place to stay, need some warmth to feed my bones
It's been a weary journey, think I'm finally heading home

Leave a man alone with his mind and his heart
a struggle of two worlds that will tear you apart
meloncholy dreams and the nightmare memories
I guess we all have to carry, but we learn to let it free like gravity

Better watch your step boy
that mountain aint no toy
and though the earth feels cool it only takes one sound to boil
than the earth comes caving in, claiming it's pray of sin
then who should be forgiven, be forgot or burned within

Leave a man alone with his mind and his heart
a struggle of two worlds that will tear you apart
meloncholy dreams and the nightmare memories
I guess we all have to carry, but we learn to let it free like gravity

--------------------

Way down we go in terms of Spotify listenings: While my previous entry has 86 million listenings, my current song has a humble spotify history of only 2.248 listenings. That's also becaue CeaseTone is a rather young band who caught much attention only last year with their debut album "Two Strangers" which is I think a wonderful and well produced debut album. It's mostly atmospheric indie rock, rich in variety with great riffs and occasional use of synthesizers. A mixture that is incredibly affecting. Their album "Two Strangers" was even nominated for the Icelandic music awards in the category "Best Rock album" . They lost to - of course - Kaleo and their album "A/B" (deservedly, though). I think the UK based blog "Nordic music review" even chose it as the best album of last year.
In the past I didn't send many rock songs but if I intend to send rock songs it's most likely a song like Humble History Song. It's so powerful and at the same time hymnic and atmospheric. I'm not sure if every part of this song even works perfectly. I think the first chorus appears a little underwhelming if you dont know what is gonna follow and there are a couple of dissonances here and there BUT as a whole it is a wonderful piece of art.. how it builds up and ends in a "instrumental thunderstorm", an emotional conclusion .. this excellent use of e-guitars and strings and you can even hear the piano playing.. so rich, and lush and infectious in every way. Goosebumps all over my body.
The Guardian reported on the Iceland Airwaves festival last year where also CeaseTone performed and they described their music like this:
CeaseTone are Icelandic purveyors of solemn, intense shoegaze with a string quartet, suggesting a new genre – chamber post-rock [...] Iceland might currently love rap (Note: The article mainly thematizes the increase of Icelandic hip-hop scene so they're refering to that) but they also, from Sigur Rós onwards, love this sort of keening, crashing rock featuring seemingly troubled young musicians seeking refuge behind a wall of scree.
xlove

Chamber Post-Rock  Gotta love that

It's a shame though, I didnt find time to produce a video for this one... have been so busy recently. However... if you guys help me to qualify for the final, I will maybe produce a video for the final.. That's some incentive, isn't it? xheat

What a phenomenal result for a 6-minutes atmospheric rock (or even chamber post-rock) song xheat I thought this is a difficult choice but this turned out much better than I expected! feels so good for my ego.. my recent Top 10 results were mainly either with instrumentals or with relatively famous songs/artists (SR, Kaleo...). these were still nice achievements but having success with very unknown artists feel even more valuable. Bless Humble History Song and its 2,000 spotify listenings... I am happy to have found this gem but the whole album is transcendent, I can definitely recommend it. Hopefully CeaseTone will be big one day, following the footsteps of other Icelandic bands who made their way abroad.
Now I am hungry for more success!

FLASHBACK

So.. Yesterday my good friend Kai from the rainy woods finally got his first win and now he is honoured to host the WV during the hot Eurovision phase..
Exactly two years ago, on 30th April 2015 the results show of WorldVision 45 was held. Unexpectedly and totally out of the blue I won the edition and also got my first win. It was a dramatic results show in which I was in the bottom at first but then in the second half of the show I climbed up and up until I suddenly found myself in a winning position. I would have never expected the win and I was overwhelmed. It was only my 7th participation, I didn't know a lot about Worldvision and their users. I still considered myself an "underdog" cause I was unsuccesful in some editions before and also in other online contests.

The following 3 weeks were super exciting and life enriching... creating all those banners without having any skills, collecting votings and counting them. I did all by myself but it was worth it. Of course I took advantage of the fact that people were in Eurovision fever so I added some Eurovision songs as interval acts in my results show.. I remember, the results show was on the night before the actual ESC final.. sadly there wasn't that many people following the show on that evening. I hoped there would be some hot scandals and people will always remember this night. The only scandal were actually I made some miscounts but luckily it didn't change the winner at the end. :D It was an insane fight with the top 3 being seperated by only two points.. and even the fourth was only 7 points away

From now an me and Kai can celebrate our anniversaries of debut wins right at the same time.. well, he on the 29th April and me one day later :D On the other hand it's a little bit frustrating being forced to look two years into the past to find a whiteshoes win.. may the WV gods be merciful to me and give me another win.. one day xpray

So, this was the song that won exactly two years ago:

Re: Áfram Ísland! | WV 77: CeaseTone - Humble History Song

What a very nice post Flo. I'm happy to see you do so well with a song like "Humble History Song". It's what I love so much about WorldVision, how many different genres can exist together and have their moment. I admit that it took me a while to get into this song. I had a bit of problem with the singing at first (you know how weird and picky I am with certain things), but I kept coming back to the song and it grew on me. As a piece of music it's rather magnificent and gets better and better throughout it's 6 minutes.

It's a rather splendid coincidence how we have both picked up our first win around the same time, and have/will have to suffer hosting during the Eurovision period when it's the time really to be chilling out. I'm excited but at the same time kind of bummed I have to be thinking about hosting stuff when i'd usually be focusing on Eurovision (especially as i'm so excited about one entry in particular this year).

Also, your Kaleo entry that took gold I still think personally is one of the very best songs that has won this game. A while back I did browse through winning songs from when I wasn't playing, and I think only "Back To Black" and "Whenever Wherever" I love more (both holding deep nostalgia and a place in my heart). It's just such a shame I wasn't on board for your Kaleo comeback:oops: I felt sad when I watched you experience another near miss. Still, you're one of the lucky guys who has gotten away with sharing some incredibly risky stuff and gets to enjoy watching it pay off. I really enjoy finding out what you're sending each edition. You're one of the riskiest players, often sending difficult songs that need time to unravel, which makes your general success here all the more impressive, and I bet no doubt rewarding.

WV 78: Sin Fang, Sóley & Örvar Smárason - Random Haiku Generator

8ipZ3RS.jpg

Lyrics

Sin Fang:Glass me in the face
It's what I deserve
The things that I have done
The things that I have said

Sin Fang & Sóley: We'll meet them in the street
And turn the other cheek
Random haiku generator
Pulling down the sky

We'll meet them in the street
And turn the other cheek
Random haiku generator
Pulling down the sky

The lengths that we will go to
To dry those crying eyes
Or just let the asphalt
Wipe away the tears

Sin Fang: The meat industry
Won't turn the other cheek
I flew over the ocean but I've forgotten all my lines
I stab up the clouds
Cornered crowded cows
Won't ever see the sky

Sin Fang & Sóley: There is so much blood
Running down my face
All these algorithms closing in like walls
I know you want to kill them
Or turn the other cheek
Random haiku generator
Leave my life alone

Sóley: Why can't we look each other in the eye
A sheet of light
Separating the day
From the night

Sin Fang, Sóley: There is so much blood
Running down my face
But I can't let your eyeballs
Soak up all the pain
We'll meet them in the street
And turn the other cheek
Random haiku generator
Pulling down the sky

The lengths that we will go to
To dry those crying eyes
Or just let the asphalt
Wipe away the tears

------------------------

Iceland is sending
one more returning artist
to Pacific States

It's the Indie-singer Sindri Már Sigfússon, who you might know as "Sin Fang". He is also lead singer of a group calles Seabear who make calm indie-folk music. But with his solo project Sin Fang he makes rather experimental pop music, using electronic vibes and special sounds in his songs. His last album was pretty much a R'n'B album, that's probably why I didn't like it. He also made a song tigether with Sigur Rós' Jónsi who is a good friend of him. Actually one of Jonsi's sisters is the girlfriend of Sin Fang. Just Iceland things...

Anyway, while I can't stand his R'n'b approaches he still makes great music as soon as he collaborates with the wonderful Sóley. I send Sóley to two NFs already but actually I can't believe I've never sent her to WorldVision so far in 40 editions... Forget Björk.. if I had to chose an Icelandic queen of music it would be Sóley even though tbh the female Icelandic artists are generally less gifted than the male artists. I think by sending Sóley I made Ben a happy man. I believe to remember he once told me my job as Iceland juror is nearly perfect if I just had the guts to send Sóley. Here you go. Even though she is only part of a duet here, she has many lovely parts in this song. Moreover she just released a new solo album so maybe there is new material that is worth to be sent to WV one day.

Also the third person here actually took part in one of my NFs... he is member of the band múm, which I included in a NF for WV 75 I think. So you see... lots of returning artists here once again xheat
This trio created an album together that isn't released yet. They pre-released three songs and they set high high standards already... if all the songs are as good as the three they teases it will be a contender for my favorite album of this year. Check out the songs "Wasted" and "Love will leave you cold" .. these songs basically has everything what i love about Icelandic music... the atmosphere, the beautiful and ear-flattering instrumental parts, the harmony of their voices. Just amazing. It's kinda ironic that out of these three songs I chose "Random Haiku Generator" which is pretty far away from what people expect me to send. It's a very modern and well-produced mid-tempo pop production but I find the melody kinda melancholic and it sounds so yearningly for me. Moreover the electronic effects here are slaying

Coincidentally and sadly some clown sent this song to NSC a couple of weeks ago and this pissed me off little cause now it might look like I stole it from him/her. But in fact that's just a weird coincidence or that guy stalks me on last.fm. We will never know. Anyway now we will be able to see how different results of WV and NSC can be.. this will be insightful at least
